Hi everyone,

Today I drove my 3200GT for the first time and guess what... i had my first problem!!

The fuel filler cap opened, but would not close. It seems the latch is stuck open.
I know that they are electrically actuated.

Has anyone had the same problem? Is there a common fix for it?

Thanks,
Dan

On the 4200 there is a fuse and relay worth checking , spray the catch with WD 40 and hopefully all will be well , there is a string/pull cord to open it tucked inside the rear wing up past the top of the battery , just make sure it hasn't got caught on anything

I would say you have a short and the relay is powering the catch open. Try switching off the battery in the boot and try it again. If it still does it, they its the catch that is stuck and do as Loz says with the WD40.

I did not know that. On the rare occasions when my filler cap has stuck closed, I've asked the assistance of random fuel station customers to push the glove box button for me.

Oops.

I had this on my Alfa GT, but someone had had the boot liner out, so the string had not been pulled through, so its a good idea to check this has not happened to you. From memory, its in the battery box cupboard somewhere.

Its just above the battery switch.....
Some cars done have the switch so itll be just above the battery in between the fuses.....

Unforutunately that still applies to the 3200, but the later 4200/GS/QP are bomb proof.

I would stick two fingers up at them and tell them to enjoy their drive home from work in their boring Fords and Vauxhalls.

hi make sure the switch in the glove box has returned all the way out, if not try and use something plastic or will blow the fuse.Oddly enough the same switch is in my 1995 alfa 155.

I wouldn't worry about it Dan, the filler cap spends more time open than shut, and, it'll save you time during fill-ups!
