after filling up the gas, the fuel cap won't pop back, so had to borrow some tape to secure it. Any idea how to latch it back? Is it electrical related or mechanical faults...troublesome, this is part of the ownership experience, huh! Thanks guys.

Step back, take a deep breath and ask it nicely.... worked when mine did it once (I had just driven about 120 miles before I discovered it though) never found out what it was it just wouldn't click into place just gave the impression it had. I put it down to Italian temprament!

Oops, did I give an impression of being rude? I apologize officially. So what have you done to get it back to work, Newton? Please share your experience if you dun mind! Very much appreciated.

Rudy, nothing offensive there mate I was simply saying with these Italian mistresses you need to panda to them and ask them nicely to work....

The filler flap is just one of those quirks! I have no idea why one time it willl work another it won't the same is true of the seats, mirrors NIT... I've even had the fuel cap give every impression of being secure but the car fulling with fuel smell on cornering and accelerating! I thought I'd got a broken fuel line and was afraid of the impending garage expense only to discover the cap had somehow got massaligned. I wouldn't expect you have a major problem maybe just pop the button a few times after spraying the latch with a PTFE lube. You can work it manually from the manual tether in the battery compartment.

Isn't it the case that only the release mechanism is electronic but closing it should br purely manual so not sure why.it would click back into place. I might have to keep a roll of duct tape in the car.

I had the opposite thing:i pressed the button for the cap to open, i heard the ''click'' for opening, but the cap remained closed. It must be the same parametre.. Italian beauty!

It's all part of the "character". On my 1 year old GTS sometimes the parking sensors work and sometimes there's a light on the dash telling me they don't, sometimes when I flip the front seat forward to let a passenger in it goes back to where it should be, other times it doesn't stop until my nose is on the windscreen, some times the SPORT button does nothing, sometimes the sat nav/radio reboots for no apparent reason....

I still love it though :)

Checked again this morning, still won't shut. Yes, I keep a roll of tape there from now on. Good idea, mate. I try to spray some WD420 lub and see if works, may the Italian God has his hands blessing me...

When you press the release button is there still the ping clunk?

If not you might have a stuck release button and what is happening is power is going to the release and the latch is permanently being powered open. Try and turn the battery isolator on and off and see if you can hear the release catch operating.

Worth a try.

Failing that, try rubbing olive oil and garlic on her rear end, it's worked for me in the past with misbehaving Italian women!

GREAT SUCCESS!! You guys are so right...some oil lub spray onto the hook end inside the fuel hole, wait for half a day, let her rest a bit, praying miracle happens! Start the car, turn the car off. Keep press the glove box fuel tank release button around 5-10 times, push it the tail ends with my finger a few times....boom! Back on clicking again! Now I learn something new everyday...i know how to handle it next time. Yes, I will keep a roll of duct tape in the car from now....just in case! Yeah..happy day.

Keep the petrol flap and boot switches well silicone lubed up , also it can be a faulty relay sticking open, worth the £8.00 to replace it with a new equiverlant alfa one
