What sort of insurance quote?
Cheapest I'm getting is £1,500 with Ticker and their black box.
Been recommended Adrian Flux with their black box, awaiting their quote...
It was £1100 and £1900 without a box for a 1.4 Mini with Tesco. To be honest it was changing every week when we were looking.

Crikey, obvs a Renault 14TS, it was an 82 model and it must have been 88 so 6 years old. Front wing had a big rust crust up high…no surprise, mileage….I’m guessing here, was low, going to say about 40k miles and I think I paid about £1400 for it.

1972 Ford Escort 1300 XL in bronze with brown vinyl seats. The gear stick used to come off in my hand. Paid £325 for it. Traded it after a year for a 1969 MGB GT but that came to messy finish in a ditch.

My first was a Fiat 127 900CL in a truly shocking bright green - paid £200 for it in 1987 - quickly progressed to a Mirafiori whose passenger door used to fly open when you went round a roundabout too quickly :D

Currently No.1 son has 2002 Mk4 Golf 1.4E that we bought from an elderly neighbour for £600 as a 1 owner 56k mile vehicle

Thought this was about first cars for our kids, seems it’s ours too.
Mine was a metallic blue (with dark blue velour) Opel Ascona 2.0 Berlina. 6 months in fitted with manta GTE alloys! Think the car was about £1500

I hadn't really grasped where we were with inflation until I tried to buy some new slippers:

Nope.

The ones I usually buy for £39.99 are now £59.99, which is also pretty bad.
Church's have unfortunately had an attack of Prada-itis - Prada have owned them for some considerable time, but in the last couple of years seem to have had a lot more influence on prices and styles (vastly over-priced training shoes etc. in the Church's window displays).

My first my Triumph Stag, which I still have 37 years later.
Cost me £3,400 back in '86, which I guess was quite a bit of money for an old 12 year old BL vehicle. Was reliable transport 365 days a year for 4 years, then I bare shelled it and carried our a nut and bolt restoration over the next 5 years. Hence why I've never sold it!

My first was the Willys MB ... cost £2200. Sold it for more in the mid-90s, but nowhere near what they are fetching today.

Got a 1965 mgb (rhd,in Belgium) as first car in 2001. Still have it (and modified it quite a bit)

The teenager (14 now) will possibly get a 2014 Skoda Octavia in Czech racing red, though he seems to object...
