Hope this does not end in tears...but I can't see how insurance would be available for many years...thats a lot of annual service req before you would be able to use it properly and retain its value and low miles.

Why does it need an annual service if it is not being used much Peter? I never got the point of that at all.

Oil will get condensation in it. Brake fluid absorbs water. Rubber pipes will fail. Belts will set in place, tyres deterioriate and flatspot etc etc It's almost more sense to mothball it properly...

An oil change every year for sure but air filters and belt are optional in my book, the belt probably every two years unless you let it get stinking hot lots of times pollen filter if it is garaged is not needed, air filter; I'm sure there are many out there still running their factory one because MD service departments 'forget to swap them' except for on the bill that is...

That's what the book says...and if you dont the car ends up devalued compared to one that has been...not my rules btw.

And if its just pottering up and down the drive it wont wear as well as one on the road.

I understand that but if the car is being turned over and driven on say a weekly basis for a few miles then does it matter? I change my oil every year or 5k miles. I think that is about all you need to do if you are not using it. Filters last alot longer, I don't get why people are so hung up on taking a car of this age to a specialist or Maserati dealer for a stamp every year if they are doing say 500-1000 miles per annum.

Cars don't like not being used, they get damp , road use dries them off , rubber perishes, joints dry up

I'd argue a car that's being used regularly at temperature needs less servicing than one that's sat around

I've never understood the insistence on low mileage , a London car with 25k over 5 years will have turned thousands of corners, hit thousands of speed bumps and been run from cold 2-3 times a day , or worse left for weeks unused all of which is bad for a car

One that's done 100k in the same period will have spent most of its life at temperature and run in a straight line on the motorway.

For the love of me I don't see how the OP is going to be able to drive this car for 8-10 years and that's if he keeps a blemish free driving history, a crash or some points and the insurance won't want to know.

I can think of a lot better things to spend the money on at 17 than a car I can't drive.

Under those conditions, maybe not. Although the belts and stuff will still age at roughly the same rate. Personally I'd not dream of taking it to a specialist. **** I don't even take mine :)

I feel so guilty saying this and do not want to rain on your parade or commitment but are you mad! you are 17 for God sake!! ........you should be out having fun making "safer" mistakes in a polo, golf, focus or the likes at your age not a supercar.

I made a similar mistake. The first car I bought was my Noble. I realised quite quickly I should really get some experience in a non supercar. So bought a snotter as well to practice in and get more road skills. As long as you're sensible and not a boy racer and respect the car then you should be fine. I took a couple of driving skill lessons on an airfield. Look up car limits - it teaches you the limits of the car and how easy it is to make a mistake and for it to end badly. After taking this course I respected what I did more on the road.

Have to say at 16 I spent my money on other things! Problem is with spending all your money on 1 thing is you have no more to create further wealth to buy a Granturismo!!

Good for you - why not use it for track days to gain experience - your Seat will probably be able to tow it to any circuit you choose and no insurance necessary to really enjoy it..

Not entirely sure I would take a car that I had saved all my money for on a track with no insurance and possibly wreck it!

I would buy something for £1.5k strip it out and run that.
