google saves the day again....

"For centuries Meriden, to the west of Coventry, West Midlands, held the claim to be the geographical centre of England, and there has been a stone cross there commemorating the claim for at least 500 years. The justification is that the point farthest from the sea is in the vicinity of Meriden. A rival claim for the true location of the centre of England is made by the site of a tree, the Midland Oak, situated on the boundary between Lillington and Leamington Spa, Warwickshire"

ten minutes from me....result

I checked it from my place Harpenden herts, and the AA route planner tells me it would be 2h 25 mins. This is the price of trying to gather lots of people from around the UK in one place

suits me fine everything does seem to happen down south. As long as it is not to far from the M40 would be easy for London boys to get to.
How about we start suggesting locations, what would the parameters be?

Sutton park, suton coldfield.
2500 acres of wilderness in the heart of the town.
used to be one of the stages of the RAC rally.
I know I am only 1/2 mile from the place which does make me appear, and I will put my hand up and admit it, somewhat bias.
But....its handy for all the motorway links, it has something for all the familly, woodland walks, kids playgrounds, lakes etc.
It also has a pub / restaurant with a large safe car park.

Thats a hard one.... looking at a map, midpoint is somewhere around Sheffield.... and then do you look for a stately house, a track, a theme park!!!!

To make it a bit easier for those heading South from the freezing north, the option of somewhere slightly closer to the M6 side might be helpful? Maybe Buxton, Matlock, Bakewell? All lovely places, some great pubs, etc and some fabulous driving roads. All just slightly south of Sheffield. If you want to look at the A1 side, then you could do far worse than Lincoln? Lovely town.
