Cheers lads, it will but if it boils down to the wedding we are saving for or the Maserati I know which will get culled :(

Hahahaha but seriously sean i know where your coming from we too are getting married and it costs a bomb....i could have had a GT if it wasnt for that.....

Guys....you've got it all the wrong way round! I've got the Masser but a wedding is nowhere in sight...despite the mounting pressure. I even had my outlaws commenting on the fact that my car buying habits (and relative spends on my cars) has just put the wedding (you know, the one that's not planned!) back by years! A decent trip away every so often appears to be keeping things at bay for now ;)

I have them in the bathroom, always use after a number...........2......ill apologise for the tone......

I've read it all now :lol2:

I actually thought I'd had one too many shandy's but nope...when I look away and then look at the screen again, this post definitely exists!

Ghosty...the solution for you is in your fleet. Bin the E92 and get a Maser....should be simple in and out...no? (as long as you're not after a GT or newish QP that is!)

E92 is my wench's company car and she gets it for free, although next time we'll be getting a fuel card with it, shes done nearly 40K in business miles and not expensed any of it because she's 'too busy for filling the forms in'

I despair at times.

Love eh?

Ah...mmm....yes, that could make swapping the E92 for a Maserati a bit of a problem (quite illegal and detrimental to you other half's career too)!

So, plan B....get her to fill out those forms (or do it for her lol)!! Surely the rebate from 40k's worth of unexpensed business miles would go some considerable way to buying a new boiler! She wants a wedding...you want a Maser - there's a solution in there somewhere!

(Of course, I do know how difficult this can be with our other halves in real life so despite my claims of being in full control, it's never really that simple is it lads!)

No it isn't :( I offered to fill the forms in for her as well. Just hard work, we start looking for a new one at the end of this year so defo going for a fuelcard next time so we don't have this hassle.

Tell her she can spend what she gets back in mileage on shoes, handbags and clothes...should shift her....

40K miles @ 40 per mile = £16000

40K miles @ 50p per mile =£20000

....60p per mile............= £24000

Whose been a very nawty girl unless shes on 250K a yr and it doesn't really matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that really how much we could claim back? I don;t think he employer will allow her to claim back 2 years worth, my god that would go a **** of a long way towards sorting some of our problems.

How would I go about doing this for her?

Cheers

I have come across Taxassist and the level of advice varies from what I understand. It is a networking system rather than a single firm, so as with anything of this nature, the advice really is only as good as the professionals in the office you are dealing with.
Depends what you want to have advice on, having a couple of hours with one of the "big four" can be far more productive and cost effective than a week with a small firm.
That said, I have not heard any bad reports so I would say try them and see how comfortable you feel with their approach.

Best thing to do ....is ask around amongst business friends.......personal recommendation is nearly always best!

The current rate for business mileage is 40 pence per mile if travelling alone and I believe 60 pence per mile if accompanied. If you have the receipts and records of each business journey, then go for it. P's calculations are correct- 40K miles at the lower rate of 40ppm is £16K!!!

Would we get that in cash or tax relief?

Cash.....some companies don't allow long claim backs....but again...must stress if company car.......probably only going to get lowish rate, they won't be too happy if its a huge lump even if you are entitled to it!

The mileage rate has just gone up to 45p per mile for the first 10,000 then 25p per mile thereafter for private car used for business.
Passenger payment is 5p per mile extra.
Hope this is of interest.
