Jesus Christ....I have never seen an crass like that. A car in half and it flames. Thank God Roman is OK. How he got out of that is a miracle. How the **** did it go through the barrier. Shows how safety has improved in the sport as a number of years back he would have never got out of that. I had visions of Aryton when it happened and my heart sank.

I think the car splitting in half probably saved him, else he would have been stuck in the barrier, it doesn't.bear thinking about.

Agree, possible broken ribs and burns to ankle and hands. He is a very lucky man and it seems that the halo saved his life.

That was F’ing horrendous, looked like a 1960’s race not a modern one.

Romain should go buy a lotto ticket now

They just said the halo punctured the barrier and the halo didn't break. Just imagine if the car didn't have the halo. That would have been game over.

Can't believe how long he was in the fire for, melted visor and missing a race boot  what a lucky man, just hope there are no long term injuries.

I know folks always say the 50s and 60s drivers were braver, and I have always thought that as being untrue and disrespectful to today’s drivers. The safety progress over the last 30 years doesn’t take away the fact that death is a split second away in this sport.

That was properly nasty. But you’re wrong about the bravery thing to a certain extent. The safety of modern cars allows them to do things and take risks that they just wouldn’t have done even 20 years ago. You see it in everything but Ferrari Challenge and Porsche Cup is the worst nowadays.

I don’t believe I am wrong at all. The drivers of yesteryear knew the risks and drove anyway. Modern drivers take the same risks, only safety advances mean they are potentially likely to walk away. And just because you may walk away does not mean you are any less brave. I’m pretty sure most of today’s drivers would have been driving F 1 is they were born 50 years earlier.
