Ah - mine my friends is a 4.2 QP (auto) - what is the likelyhood of there being flaps in the mufflers?

I cannot imagine they would have changed anything. To check, you might get a usb cam around the larger outlet and see the valve if it is really flexible, but the bend is quite tight. Or maybe you can see if you take a box off and get the camera down the inlet pipe. A cable puller/fisher might work and when you reach the flap that will push open OR get one chopped open on the top. Jarens metalworks did mine and cleaned, repainted and polished tips back up. They breath freely now with no sound deadening too.

Mine is 4.2 GT muffler. But we compared it to a 4.2 QTP muffler. Both are exactly the same. So yes, your friend has some valves.

I think there was a exhaust shop somewhere on this forum that was used a lot for the 4200 muffles. They cut it open, remove some material and guess you could also do the same as Gazcw. Although its nice to be able to close the valves and quiet things done.
