So my left back box had a rattle when not in sport. Dale has confirmed the valve is the culprit. Does anyone know a company that rebuilds them? Or does anyone have a left back box for a 4.7 going second hand?

Cheers guys

The valves are very simple things. I have never heard of rebuilding, probably easy swapping with a used good box. There are aftermarket exhaust valves available that could probably be added/replaced by a good welder too. Check ebay.

ahh cool im in Essex also so will give them a call tomorrow. Many thanks

Just be aware I know he's very busy ATM. I need to go down next week to drop Mrs C's 147 off (squeaky idler) and pick up the Micra that JUST WON'T DIE! Why won't you DIE!!!!

You'll probably need to find the valve(s) for him as well:

Sadly my ebay history doesn't go back far enough to link to the valves I found :(

No not at all. I just can't recall the correct size:

I think it's 2.5" but might be 3"

You need open style.

Ive actually got my old mid box which was taken out for an x-pipe assume i can get the size for it from that? That pipe is basically 6cm wide?

I think so. Certainly matches my memory of it being 2.5" 63mm.....

You could measure it on your car....

sorry to butt in. You need they following, as far as I can guess and see:
  • right tube diameter and material
  • make sure they are vacuum (there seem to be some positive pressure ones too)
  • Make sure the vaccumm range is the same as the standard, I guess here 99% will do
  • make sure the passive state (no vacuum) is correct, as in open o closed. Catman mentions open above. I'm assuming this is correct.

I've probably over complicated this, happens often.

Yeah, pretty sure you have a bit. I mean you're totally correct but most of these systems are the same. ;)

Booked in with Autoalfa on the 18th Nov and got some open style 2.5" valves, he said best to change both rather than one. Roll on next week (fingers crossed). Thanks all for the help.

Excellent. Say 'Hi' to Felice for me :)

I changed mine for Ebay ones 63mm normally open. Got a local welder to chop out the old and weld in the new. Hint: make sure the actuator is disassembled from the actual valve prior to welding as this contains a rubber diaphragm that will be damaged by the heat.

What might be involved in retrofitting valves to an unvalved set up... Asking for a friend..:as004:

He's also seen on line that you can get electic actuators, rather than vaccuum ones. What's the collective thought on those?
