March of progress. One of my aged aunts used to call the motor car one of the greatest contributors to public health - no horse ordure on the streets. EV’s will do the same, though not to the same extent. We have an EV and though a tad more expensive to buy is a cheap to run and convenient runabout used alongside the Spyder and my daily driver the Citroen DS. Parking at BHX last week (200 mile trip) we took the EV: not leaving the Spyder up there and the DS a tad risky! Horses for courses….

Still love the anonymity, it's all about how my baby makes me feel, as an Italian, its all about the looks.

Took out my friend's neighbour yesterday for a drive, she had never been in a Maserati but had always moved in the high society circle, so im asuming she has driven the top class vehicles, and she loved it.
She said it was one of her most memorable drives and amazed how beautiful it was,

As an owner, and hopefully you guys can relate, that made me just smile.

I have always bought cars that for me, looked beautiful and had character.

Back in the day, I had a Lancia Integrale, everyone said don't get one of those, but it looked beautiful and amazing to drive, and infact before my QP6, it was the last car that put a smile on my face.

But look at them now, sought after model with a price tag to match.

So some of you probably know my views but in a nut shell, a car purchase is something for yourself, like a suit, look good, feel great.
Is never about catering to the plebs of life and to conform to society views.

There is nothing wrong with being an individual, your car has soul because you have a soul.

I'm sure many will say I'm talking twaddle but hey, it's an opinion, which is also allowed in a democratic UK, well for now anyways.

Bit early for Vino, so going to have my cappuccino and biscuits people.

In the UK and Europe at least, we are being forced into buying EV,s as a result of taxation and in eight years, will of course have to buy one if we want a new car. In terms of driving in and around London, you can blame the 'looney left environmentalist' local government for ever increasing road charging!
That said after nearly a year of ownership, I have to say my EV remains the best car I have owned! Probably not for the reasons that will appeal to the traditional Maserati owner, as it offers almost Rolls Royce levels of serenity and refinement, semi autonomous driving tech that takes a lot of effort out of driving, and with looks (inside and out) that continue to attract enormous praise from passers-by!
Whats the car that attracts such praise sir?

So, your reason for running an EV is a money saving, rather than planet saving. Ok, that tells a story. Personally, irrespective of the cost, I run petrol cars because of the sound I encourage them to make, the fact you have to drive them, and how it makes me, not other people, feel. From what you are saying, you don’t appreciate these facets of car ownership, and you prefer operating cheap to run automotive ‘white goods’. Fine, each to their own. Owning an EV is very much like the BLTQ movement; it’s there, they are a minority with the biggest mouth, it’s being pushed forward by people with agendas, rammed down our throats as being normal, but the ‘straights’ amongst us wish they would just go forth and multiply elsewhere.

Genesis Electrified G80 - it continuously gets confused for a Bentley or on occasion an Aston Martin! There is a slight link with Bentley, the Genesis head of design- Luc Donkerwolke used to be head designer at Bentley, and the badge has clearly been plagiarised!!

Well no not money. The car that I bought (see above is circa £80k, and whilst I don’t pay congestion charge, and vastly reduced parking costs in central London, not to mention currently no RFL, and of course vastly reduced fuel costs, oh and Genesis offer five years free servicing (with collection and delivery via a transporter, and courtesy car) and five year warranty; the cost of buying the car still overwhelmingly outweighs the costs had I kept my Ghibli Diesel (also excellent car BTW).
What the Genesis does, thanks to it being a true luxury car, but with performance that would trounce a Quartroporte, or most Maserati GT’s (0-60 independently tested at 4.1 secs!), means for me absolute refinement - all but silent, with a great ride!
As I mentioned earlier, the level of tech and features are way ahead of Maserati- it will park itself without the driver being in the car for example! And whilst the car cost around 80,000 it’s still ten grand less than the equivalent Merc:
Finally, whilst looks will always divide, and as you point out it’s not what others think, it remains the case that I’ve never owned a car that attracts so many positive comments, with people photographing, and whilst it’s doing its parking party trick videoing as well.
Of course ICE cars will have a following for the reasons you mentioned, but with their days quite literally numbered- in terms of buying new, and what will only be ever increasing taxation for the privilege of driving one, like the gas lamp after the invention of the electric light bulb, their days are numbered!
So in conclusion my choice was not to buy the motoring equivalent of white goods, for that there is Tesla, where I would suggest most are driven on lease as company cars, but because for my personal preferences the Genesis ticks the boxes both technically and believe it or not emotionally too!!
BTW if I’m next to you at the lights I won’t embarrass you by leaving you in my rear view mirror, these days there is just too much traffic, 20mph zones and speed cameras to make a fast car pointless. If you want to sit and rev your engine, of course there you have me beat! Although don’t do it round Knightsbridge or Sloane Sq, as the Police will nick you for noise pollution! But at least you will have a better sound than the kid in his hotted up Vauxhall Corsa…

My Granturismo purchase was to directly compensate for the electric car thats coming to replace my X5 40i in September.

Gone from a car allowance back into the company car scheme, mainly for a cost saving. They had a good selection of offers on the electric cars, and I’ve ordered a Sportback Q8 E Tron that will arrive soon.

Oh, and if anyone wants a 2021 X5 40i, it’ll be available soon! Pics of old and new below

i had a genesis saloon as a rental in the USA one time and it was quite impressive, i can imagine with an electric drivetrain it would be pretty refined.

I’m up to 32k miles in the E-Tron now, of wafting about in quiet comfort. Still not put a foot wrong, or required any mechanical/electrical repairs. Still the most used of all our cars, and by the far the cheapest to run (even taking into account the fact that the price of electricity has risen). Of course, it doesn’t have the emotional pull of a Maserati and I wouldn’t have it as my only car, but as a daily vehicle, it continues to tick the boxes.

Boffins at Leeds University have done a study that reveal due to the extra weight of a EV they are contributing to the poor state of the UK roads personally as much as I would like it to be true surely the number of Commercial vehicles must be a major problem but then they also pay high road taxes.
