You have to ask yourself how that got damaged, was it upside-down pi$$ing oil out.
Maybe keep searching for a better one
I think you are right, will keep looking, the costs are now close to 10K, i can buy one in the UK for this price...

I thought I saw a grancab engine on ebay with 16k miles for <5k.
I did. Has a few ancillaries missing but a lot less than 10k.

Yes, i was going to make an offer for around 3K, as it would need an ECU, which eurospares will have to order from Italy, that is £1000. Other bits would be around £800, so would still come to £4800 if the seller accepts, which i doubt. That engine was sold by the scrape yard for £5K and sat inside the guy's garage for more than a year, they also managed to squash the ECU with the vehicle :(

Probably. Thank you for sending the technical info. I have read through it, did not find any difference apart from 10 BHP extra, which as you mentioned, come from oval exhaust. I have that exhaust installed already anyway.

Have not found any difference between 2011 and 2012 4.7 engines either....

What details should i ask the seller for to be sure, like vehicle number plate etc? That way i could check myself the year of production and other details?
The 2011 MC Stradales ran a low friction diamond I believe coating on the internals. I believe from 2012 onwards this was run in all 4.7 variants.

There is one for sale in holland for about 5000 euro. Needs and intake and oil pan. Lot of other stuff still left on it. But most likely a good bid will get you a much better price.

Thanks, man, wish i could speak dutch :(
Looks a decent engine, i just could not figure out whether it was MC Shift or Auto...

As its Charles Trent I imagine they will have most of it

Definitely from auto but that makes no difference as it's still the same engine just mated to different gearbox. I've also used engine from auto in my swap and now it's mated to manual gearbox.

Incorrect, variators are timed differently on a automatic engine, the parts are the same the alignment isn't, automatic engine ECU's also have different electrical timing programmed into them.
For example when building a engine for a 4.7 SportGT your timing will be different to a 4.7 MC Shift even in the same build range.

Further more, there is two types of wet sumps, the later ones have the spring-loaded INA variators and much more variation range, timing and actuation is different (ME9.3 motronic)

So there are plenty of small details to keep in mind.
Also if you're going to swap the 4.2 to a 4.7 i'd also for example fit a SportGT skyhook module and have NCA done to 4.7 spec in terms of shift speed and mapping.

There is a ton of software differentiation.

Thank you, Chris, i have bought the engine :)
Will keep you posted on the developments with installation :)
Interesting, that looks like a 136Y gen engine, possibly a YK or derivative those are arguably the best wet sump, you can easily ID them if you remove the oil pan if there are reed-valves underneath each of the crank journals
FYI if it's that, and a MY18 as it looks you'll need it's NCM too as the variators work differently

Just to clarify i'm using standalone ECU so everything was programmed from scratch
