How does this work for you in reality? I appreciate that electricity costs less at night wholesale but do smart meters allow you to work out how your demand is profiled and whether you would be cheaper on a normal tariff?
Normal tariff has never worked out cheaper, washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer all have built in timers and are programmed to come on during the cheap night period

Curiously, I'm just under £600 in credit with my energy provider (Shell). They estimate my monthly bill will be around £335, and that I should increase my monthly DD to... £331. Ummmm...

We are £750 in credit with Scotish Power.
They jacked up our DD in anticipation of the rises earlier in the year, plus we then added solar which reduced our electricity costs by more than half.
That with the £400 from the government, I might consider if the family are nice to me switching on the AGA!

Even at the present price cap, if they freeze it, we are still paying more than double for our electricity and 3.5x more for our gas, compared to this time last year.
So it still will be a very expensive winter for most.
I'd think many parents will be policing their kids energy use rather that just being thankful they're out from under their feet

This winter the actual kwh used will be lower than previous years for many people as they'll actually be checking what they use

This is 100% me :D

Since our youngest moved out, our bill is down by about £100 each month. He'd drain the bloody water tank every shower.

I think he has shorter showers now he pays his own bills.
