Eliminating car ownership - seriously?

I see what you mean by the ‘missing’ 14%. I do wonder what the environmental impact will be to put on 20 times as many trains/buses/teams to carry the folks who need to travel? Though I would suspect the public transport would have to run almost continually.

Indeed. I suspect we would have to make some spectacularly bad choices for it to be only 1%, as 1 x 20 tonne bus with 60 people on it would clearly take less energy to move than 60 x 2 tonne cars from a physics point of view. But there may be other factors at play so I am interested to read it.

Surely, WFH has had a bigger impact on London's environment? The loss of those people whom travelled daily from the commuter belt by whichever method.
I'm sure TFL will have the data on vehicle traffic by type as well as numbers before, during and after pandemic lockdowns. And if it's like Air Traffic, available to the public.

Bristol postponed it ULEZ due to COVID drops in emissions - putting it back on the calendar now though

Then theres the classics market industry, year ending '21 accounts for 1.5million registered historic vehicles, 700,000 owners of classics generating £7.2billion in the UK, with over 4000 specialist companies employing over 34,000 workers.

I live North of London (Hertfordshire) and often drive to the West End for shopping. Today 28miles 50minutes and parked in New Bond Street. There were 4 of us on the Strad, door to door the train. Would take longer and cost more.
I do agree that SK is a **** though

I resent the scandalous £15.00 Congestion Charge, so now rarely drive into central London, but a week before Xmas drove from Harrow in NW Greater London to Albemarle St off Piccadilly in about 45 minutes, without the usual traffic on the Western Avenue. So there’s a bonus, however in order to see the Xmas lights I then spent the next TWO HOURS trying to drive around central London at about 9pm through solid traffic and arbitrary road closures temporary lights etc. My total travel time was close on FOUR HOURS!!! Khan is driving us off the roads by making it an absolute ordeal to travel.
Still got a good picture of my Ghibli parked under the lights near Piccadilly.

Still a great looking car.

I’m not sure if I will buy another ICE special car as more and more cities will stop us driving them into the centre and I‘m not sure all these sports cars will stay strong value wise if that is the case.

For daily drivers the current range of hybrids and full BEVs are running on poor technology and don’t appeal to me. Best option is for us all to keep the cars we have for now.
