Driving in London *rant*

Sorry in advance for the rant, but had to do a spot of town driving yesterday (at the request of the missus) and was reminded of simply how horrible driving in London is. Driver courtesy is almost unheard of, everyone seems to drive in the middle of the road, bus drivers are simply hooligans trying to finish their round for their much deserved (not!) tea break. And what's up with traffic lights staying green for 3 seconds???

Simply horrible.

Rant over ;)

Yep, its a rat race alright. If you have a beat up old car its quite fun, but in the Maser, no thanks!

Even in my crappy Prius, it's so unnerving, particularly as I had the whole family onboard.

Enzo, after 4 years of Tokyo traffic, I figured London can't have been that bad, but it is. Traffic here is just ... oh well, let's move on...

I know Maurizio,
I pounded the London pavements for 17 years (not as a copper, but getting to/from Liv st station to my office)...
complete nightmare, even as a pedestrian.

Or....
do as I do now, and catch a plane to work twice a week...
hold on, where is the fun in that, I get to spend at least 6 hours each week on the M25 / A12

:sad3:

Parisien my dear chap; you should get the heart monitored as you have been shocked and horrified by me recently too!
Avoid stress!

I took the baby out on Sunday and it was an absolute nightmare.

I sat for an hour in islington - an hour to go 800 yards.

and why ... because they had muppets digging a hole, moving one foot every minute, smoking while watching their mate "work".

no merging - just hopeless.

just simply unbelievable.

I was so stressed at the end of the sunday drive - I just went home without doing what I planned to do.

I need to do yoga.

Sorry for the thread revival but... Do you know they are STILL digging this road up...it's now two years on.

London driving is awful.

i drove a rental in Italy into the centre of Naples, and managed to get parked earlier this year, and I reckon its on par with Cairo, and Jakarta and all of these places are 10 times worse than anywhere in the UK. how any one in Naples or Rome can drive a decent car around is beyond me, its war, you need an armoured car, or a rental (same thing :))!

I've just spent 10 days doing battle with the f*cking French. If you think London is bad try the motoways in France. Rude, inconsiderate, arrogant with simply atrocious driving standards. Tail-gating and not indicating seem to be their favourite transgressions but we saw just about everything else as well. I didn't like the French before I set off and saw absolutely nothing to make me re-appraise my attitude towards them. Rant over. Until the next time.

Ha! That sounds familiar... Still prefer the Heathrow run to driving in London.

Best London car? My beat up old V8 Landy 110. EVERYTHING got out of the way of that. It was adequately bent and loud that it was abundantly clear an extra dent or scrape really wouldn't matter.

I notice when driving in London its not just the traffic, roadworks... But the drivers. They don't give way to you, let you in, thank you...
