you're not using it properly ;), here's a tutorial for you

Feel free to buy one and try it! Also on a front door as opposed to a cheap padlock. If it really were that easy then I suspect burglary would be rather more rife. (BTW I've tried it, and I'm hardly ham fisted. It takes a significant amount of practice. YMMV)

I made double glazed windows and doors for my dad's business when I was young. I also used to test all the manufacturer's locking systems regularly to see how good they were. Many were poor. It is easy to smash a pain of toughened glass in the right place. A brick into the face of it is the worst place

I've had to break into a few customers houses when they had locked themselves out. Also done it a few times on my own house. Locked myself out of the office a few years back and never picked a lock in my life. With very very basic tools I was able to pick a 5 lever mortice lock in about 8 mins. I had no idea what I was doing short of a few YT vids. Surprised how easy it was and I could likely do in 2-3 mins now if I did again.

Of course some are harder than others and some almost impossible. However a euro cylinder can be drilled out pretty quickly with decent tools/bits. Done that too a few times.

Like padlocks a euro cylinders possibly 5 lever mortice locks it really depends on the material and quality. A cheap euro cylinder will be made of soft brass or cheap composite metals that are not hard to drill through. A decent one will still be drillable but would be much harder and take a ton more time to drill out.

Of course we all know a professional or determined thief will always get their boot. It is just mainly a question of enough deterents being in place that they may not bother or find an easier target. I find having older cars, not sure good TV's etc. and nothing on show helps. I have no real value in the house so no real cash, jewelry, watches or assets in the house. Anything they want they can have if they really want it.

most if not all cheap euro cylinders can be snapped with a pair of mole grips, must be loads out there on dg doors with folk unaware, ideally should be changed for anti snap ones

First thing we did when we moved into our current house was fit new anti snap cylinders, also the correct length so flush.

Has anyone used Verisure alarms? They're running a deal in Costco at the moment, throwing some 'freebies' like an Arlo doorbell. Its the monthly monitoring fee that gets me, does anyone have experience of a monitored system vs self monitoring ?

Not sure on Verisure but they give you all the kit for peanuts normally and then tie you in for 3yrs or so at £365+ a year. Thats how I have seen it done before. What is the monitoring going to give you? They cannot call the police. If they see a burglary or attempt they will send a guard. How many do they have? How long will it take to get there? Is your area covered? Lot of money for what you get.

Video monitoring and guard and the rep talked about calling the police if obvious, no tie in interestingly, however if you cancel the contract you can't even view the photos from the cameras as the pictures are on their servers. I'm trying to decide if monitored is the way to go, or just a Smart system... Good point about coverage times though, I hadn't really thought about that.

They call the police but because the system is not URN compliant they don't have to attend and if it was a Saturday night at pub kicking out times very unlikely. It is the same for the fire monitoring. They will call you to tell you your house is burning down but cannot call the brigade. So what are you actually getting over a smart system, where you could verify the alarm and call the police yourself and hope they attend!
