Was going uphill early in the morning, in auto 'D' mode, suddenly gas pedal gone, no repsonse, engine still running fine, no unusual noise or sound. Put it into gear 3, 2, 1 still no response, just won't move forward. Reverse is totally fine. I m guessing the automatic gear box is gone? Had to use reverse back to my parking spot, luckily, luckily i m not too far from my own parking spot

Any ideal getting a replacement gear box, mechanic assumed that was it.....very sad. 3200GT-A 1999 made..... :(

David Askew

Is your first point of call, I'm sure he can supply a gear box & will give you the name of some one who can install it for you.

still trying to figure out, but I actually think that auto gear box is fine, but its the gas pedal, no response when i step on it in any mode! What do you guys think? I am waiting after the weekend to tow it to my mechanic. Thanks for you guys help so far.

The transmission is a BTR unit and I have not heard of any instances where the gearbox fails. I would be looking at the throttle pedal poentiometer as the likely culprit.

Can't be the throttle pedal pot' if reverse is working. I don't know the auto system at all, but could it point to the gear linkage?

doubt its the gearbox, they very well made the autos and rarely has there been issues, it could be linkage as miles says....

If the throttle is gone then its either the pedal pot or the throttle body, both of which are well documented on here. Might be worth trying the throttle reset, put it in neutral, ignition on for 2 minutes. Ignition off. Ignition on with throttle pedal flat down for 10 seconds (I think) then ignition off. As Miles points out its odd that you can reverse but I'm guessing that could be with tickover revs?

Hi Rudy,

Does the engine actually rev with the pedal, or does it just idle even when pressing on the accelerator? Does not sound like the auto box, if you were going up hill the auto box needs you to accelerate, or it will just sit there and hold the car on the gearbox, waiting for acceleration to move. It sounds like the accelerator electronics to me.

Cheers

Hi Robert,

Engine just idle when press on accelerator
when going up the hill the other day, it just hold the car up the slope, like idle in natural, but no response on the accelerator, even floor the pedal.

I can still change the gear now, with D or R, just a very slow moment. U r right, the auto box seems fine.

Hi Rudy,
Yes it definitely sound like the throttle, not the gearbox. I do not know enough about the throttle electronics to be honest, but someone on here will. If you can wait for a few more answers, I think you will be able to solve the problem. Thankfully you will not need a new gearbox.
Cheers
Robert

Yes, agreed, it sounds like the Drive by wire system.

I take it, it will not rev in neutral or park either?

Contact Boomerang member, he does the contactless upgrade units, very good by all accounts.

You might want to just check that the multi plug is still attached to the accelerator pedal pot (on top of the accelerator pedal)

Rudy, do you get throttle response / car movement in reverse?

If not, then this is a basic one, but just check that the connecting rod from the throttle pedal pot to the throttle pedal hasn't worked loose. The connecting rod sits atop the pot' and is fastened with a bolt onto a splined shaft. If the bolt has worked loose the connecting rod won't turn when the pedal is pressed, and could show as the problem you have.

Easy to check, just remove the felt above the pedals and take a look. A torch and a mirror will be helpful and stop you cricking your neck.
