Hi all,

Just got a quote for a, 'new clutch' at a main dealer for c. £3,500.00 + Vat. The dealer in located in NI.

What has anyone elso paid for this job and how do quotes vary for main dealers v indies (am just about to call Autoshield)?

Thanks,

Pat.

WHAT!

Autosheild you are looking at less than half that realistically.

Clutch at an indie will range from £1100-£2k depending upon if you have to replace the bearing, flywheel or both on top of the clutch parts.

Hi,

Would be interested in talking to your contact, does he come recommended?

I was under the impression that the work needed computer equipment only available to dealers or large indies?

The computer clutch setup really is a bit of an old wives tale to stop non franchise from attempting it.

Ok, you need SD2/3/4 to set the KIS/PIS, but the balancing is just not required, I heard that direct from the service department of one of the largest main dealers in the country and several indies.

£1,500 is an average for a clutch replacement, if anyone asks for £3,500 they are the biggest rip off merchants on the planet...!!!:sad3:

To be fair you need to drill down to what's actually being quoted. Clutch, flywheel, release bearing, spigot and bell house bearings and it'll add up. Add MD labour rates and there you are.

Spigot and bell house bearings are cheep, so a no-brainer to replace anyway. Clutch is a given, but the fly wheel and release bearings can be replaced as necessary, which means getting in there to see what's what.

You should be able to get a quote with the part costs listed. Hope that the fly wheel and release bearing are okay (bonus), but budget for replacement just in case. Indi labour rates are less than half MD rates in my experience.

Hope you get it sorted without unnecessary cost.

QP clutches are different depending on year. Ring Marios tomorrow, he'll be there, I believe he's been out all day today.

I had my QP clutch replaced last year by Graypaul in Nottingham. I think all in it was about £1700 but I will check the paperwork and let you know.
