Cheap Grancabrio Sport 2013 - REALLY?

Firstly can I just say what a great forum and pool of knowledge you have all created here - fantastic.

I need the help and guidance from real owners please

I have put a deposit down on a Rossi red, cream leather, black hood and wheels 2013 Grancabrio Sport - 47k mlies, full stamped main dealer service history @ £42k The whole interior needs a good clean but it drives well and no sub frame corrosion or noticeable faults…… except….. the AC is not working and the garage can’t seem to get it fixed. I have a sneaking suspicion it might be a new condenser but I’m not certain.

Should I walk away? Or should I get them to deduct the cost of a new condenser installation? BTW, does anyone have any experience of what kind of bill I would be looking at for that? from a specialist? From a main dealer?

Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance

You need to get it looked at by anyone competent in Aircon.
A good look around with a UV light to see if there's any trace of the dye and see if the system can hold a vacuum.
All fairly straightforward.
Compressor can be a weak point too.
Good Luck.

This car always looks lovely in the advert on Autotrader and in a rare colour. I would get it checked out at a specialist and if it is a good one snap it up as they don’t come up for sale often especially in that red. Personally I would have to get the back lights put back to original as well.

Strange or lazy dealer trying to sell an exotic motor car that
  1. has a surety leather interior
  2. has a air con fault
Get yourself an inspection and then get negotiating.

As mentioned above the AC Compressors fail frequently on the GT/GC. The more they are messed with the more problems they can cause to the system.

If you want to proceed insist it is sent to a known specialist for this to be rectified as part of any deal, along with a inspection... and a proper clean of the seats.

Maybe look at this one instead - very similar car, slightly more expensive but a lot less miles and from a well respected independent seller?

Only thing with that one Stu is it isn’t a Sport like the other and as I understand it the Sport transforms the standard car. I have a contractor that we work with and he bought the standard car and chopped it in for the Sport and he said it he couldn’t believe how much an improvement the Sport was over the standard car. He ran it for about two years and the standard car he had for 6 months…

As others have said, get them to include for any repair needed in the deal.

It could really be anything, compressor, blocked drier, condenser. So you would be ill advised to specify in the deal what part needs to be replaced.

Thanks Phil, the challenge that I have is that I am travelling down from Sutton Coldfield down to Ilford to get this car. I was going to use Migliore Cars as my local specialist for work on the car. (Does anyone have any experience of using them in the West Midlands?)

Oh… believe me, I went to look at this one - but its not a sport. It is a gorgeous car in its own right but I really do want a sport.

Can anyone recommend a good Maserati specialist Near East London - Ilford? That is where the car is now

Migilore have a very good name indeed.
Maybe Dale from Prestige could inspect the car for you.

East London - you could try AV Engineering, they aren’t far, but they might have limited availability.

Ok, enough is enough. This joke of a garage still can’t get the AC fixed and won’t release the car to be inspected or fixed by a specialist! Complete wasters and IMO I wouldn‘t touch this particular car with a barge pole as I am getting the distinct impression there is a horror story lurking somewhere there that they are trying to cover.………

……..and then yesterday I found this little beauty. Only 20k miles. Full documented service history and a wedge of receipts. Drives like a dream and immaculate throughout. Full external carbon kit too. Money down and picking it up next week. Btw… need to change my Avatar! RESULT! Welcome to the joys of Masser ownership!

Epic, well done. If you're not sure about a car or a dealership then walk away. There is always another and you just proved it perfectly.

Absolutely stunning. Well done and sounds like it was right to walk away from the red one which is now interestingly not on Autotrader any more.

Beautiful - and I see it is a Sport and nice plates too - can we have some more details? Year, transmission?

She’s …(is it she?) a late 2013 (63 plate) 4.7 MC Sport - so a 6 speed ZF. Unfortunately the plate is being retained by the previous owner but I am off to the garage today to give them my retention certificate for my plate that has gone on all my cars B7 CJH (went on my 1st BMW 7-series 25 years ago and been using it ever since).

Very interesting to hear that the red one has been pulled from Autotrader! The plot thickens!
