Cats and your Pride and Joy

Seems im gonna be on one today , lovely sunny day here in MK , thought i'd venture out for a quick spin to run the cars up for the weekends fun, immediately noticed soon as the front door was opened a cat sitting on the bonnet basking in the sun and another a few feet away doing the same but on the drive , as you might notice from this im not a pet lover or owner , as like most of i like to keep the cars clean and well fettled as i do with my ,gardens also , im that sort of a person

So you can imagine how annoyed i was at the thought of that large expanse of bonnet getting scratched as the cat would remove itself as i neared , so i gently and slowly moved towards it and when i was within striking distance gave it an almighty wallop sideways, certainly did the trick as i dont think its feet touched the bonnet on lift off ,

Apparently the cats owner who has only recently moved in across the road in a rented property got rather annoyed and came out to reminstrate with me , oops , i called her over and immediately pointed to 3 different piles of cats mess on one of the borders, there you go thats what i have to put up with i replied ,and the last straw would be that one of your cats scratched my beautifull paintwork ,, i followed by telling how how manic i was about waxing and keeping the carsand the garden in good condition and that if she didn't take greater control of her cats i couldn't be responsible for them on my property

She just got angrier and said that there was nothing she could do , cats were a free spirit , when i said that she could keep them in or walk them on a lead she blew her top ,

Ive got a couple of sonic cat deterents , ive put orange peel down , i have clear plastic bottles upside down around the borders, even bought some lion pee essence once nothing seems to work ,

What do you guys do with your pride and joys and neighbours cats

Get a cat, that is the only way to stop them coming over.

Not being a Cat lover that sort of goes against the grain Matty, reason im not a pet owner is that i have better things to do with my time, than to spend half my life controling where it goes and who's garden it might mess in , and i cant stand there smells either , if i didn't do that then my me and my cat would be be as bad as the rest of them that are outhere , we all know that a cat never sheets on its own doorstep , and like most cat owners they dont care where their cats do it so long as its not on there patch

rspb have some hints

http://www.rspb.org.uk/advice/gardening/unwantedvisitors/cats/catdeterrents.aspx

maybe leaving some thorny stuff in the areas it tends to go might divert it off somewhere else

found this as well on a forum

A friend recommended Claytek Cat Repellent, I've still got half of the tub left - completely solved the problem. Its fired clay pellets that smell strongly of lemon. The smell lasts for weeks, and the pellets just look like gravel.

I just scattered a handful amongst the gravel, once a month for several months over one summer, and the cats have never returned.

Kept the tub, just in case, but never needed it now for a couple of years.

Been to dozens of those sites, In all sofar in 3 years probably spent in the region of £100 on various methods , somehow i think the system/law is wrong on this , if it was a dog you could get the owner prosecuted if it persisted , im getting to the stage where im going to log and photgraph their vistis because eventually i can see its me who going to get prosecuted ,especially if the cars get scratched again

My weapon of choice is a catapult, but you'll have to wait til it's got off your car!

Water-soaker?

Loz, I hope you told her that you were also a free spirit and would therefore be sh1tting in her garden in future?

Dont think i could do that im sure im allergic , but knowing my luck if i bought a female she'd be inviting the tom's from all over , or if i bought a tom it would probably turn out to be a gay one

think i'll do as Pat suggests carry on with the walloping and take the hit, mind you , dressed up in full camouflage and combats with a super soaker certainly appeals

I'd suggest a water pistol. Doesn't damage your car, doesn't damage the cat but does deter it from coming to the place where it got wet. The animal does not know it is offending you.

yep, agree with the above. Whilst I suggested a super soaker for entertainment purposes, a water pistol would suffice if it had sufficient 'reach'. The cat needs to associate your garden and car with being sprayed with water - the owner can't really complain as you're not harming the cat, but it should do the trick.

I still think that you should be a free spirit in her garden though - saves trapsing mud through your house....

Well good luck with that Loz, I fear you about to find out just how stubborn the felines are.

I have two myself and they are characters.

The Tom winds me up, when it rains, he pisses in the bath, you can sort of see the logic, but still, not in my bath thankyou.

I have caught him mid flow on occasion and I grab him by the scruff, turn the power shower on full, cold naturally, and given him both barrels.

It's still not deterred the stupid animal!

Matt, cats aren't stubborn, they're evil. I'll bet he's only pissing in the bath so that you get distracted and don't notice he's already been pissing in your coffee.

Buy a dog - they wont scratch the paint, unless their claws dig in whilst chasing the aforementioned cat off the bonnet

That is what keeps them away from our house, hotel & 14 acres Two German shorthaired pointer working gundogs. Better than catnip they also keep Badgers, Mink and the odd fish nicking Otter away to! And they don't sit on cars.

I used to have a really cool tom cat, once when he was being ignored, he jumped up on the kitchen work surface and peed in to a power socket, which blew all the power off, but he was a character. We have 1 tom and 2 girls now, all crazy in their own way.

We are pussyless............our last cat was more of a character than some of our neighbours........could actually talk too.....which again is more than some of the neighbours can do.............................;)

But when he died 4 yrs ago....we just couldn't get another...........................
