Cars that should do well over the next 10years

If it needs to be over 30 years old, why not an R107? Way more stylish, better built as well. Mine’s 42 years old and still as good as gold - starts on the button every time, even after being ignored for 6 months each winter.
Ewan, looks are personal so that cannot be debated. I think Mercs of that era are as well made as the early 90s SL/S/E etc but very prone to rust. The people to talk to about sourcing one of these are SLShop in Stratford. Last time I was there a few weeks ago there must have been over fifty107s there for sale, service or restoration. Their guidance was £45-50k for a good car so quite a bit more than a 129 today, perhaps not in another 10 years. I think I may enjoy one more today but 30 years ago I delivered a 280 for a friend and it was one of the most disappointing cars I had driven with no power and truck like handling. I guess I didn't comprehend the appeal of wafting back then! Would probably need a 500 to ensure the ability to overtake anything on todays A/B roads though.

Guy - you are quite right. My 280 has no power and handles like a truck also. But that‘s just fine on a sunny summers day, wafting through the lanes on the way to cricket with the roof down and a picnic in the boot. It’s technically rubbish but emotionally brilliant at the same time, and with a dash of style.

I see that the SL Shop now have their best R107’s at £90-£100k. The same cars were £50k a year ago, and £25k a couple of years before that. Personally I think it’s crazy, and driven purely by themselves. It’s still easy to buy a perfectly useable SL107 from auction for £10-£15k, which to my mind, is a price far more in keeping with the driving experience.

Ahh, the E46 CSL, nice car, a special drive.

They dipped not too long ago (2019?) and then asking prices went back up. Not too long ago there were quite a few for sale and prices had lost a little ground.

Whether people are getting the asking prices is unclear.

Funny market at the moment, very few cars in general are up for sale, I expect due to covid restrictions, combined with winter.

None for sale under £50k. Almost up to their original new price of £60k.. Try finding one!
You'd have to be desperate to advertise privately in winter when the country is largely under lockdown.
The situation is artificial in my opinion.
There seem to be half a dozen for sale on Pistonheads, but I'm sure that'll change when we get into summer.
The CSL register is a good place to find them.
I agree they're great cars.

I asked Santa for a crystal ball for Xmas but he let me down. I'll stick with my current stable of cars & not worry about appreciation or depreciation as we all should.
My father passed away 2 days ago so my new years resolution is to use my cars more & to **** with worrying about the mileages.
That's coming from the man who's added 3500 miles to his maser in 5 years. I'll do more than that in the next 12 months!
