Interesting. Anyone want to buy my 560SEC. Past its peak as is 33 now. I wish I hadn't had the suspension rebuilt now.....
Americans can also import forbidden fruit at 25 years. Hence Skyline prices, Escort Cosworth, DeltaGrale, RS2 et SL.
The next biggy is the M3 CSL and 996 GT3 RS

We had Ford Escorts. They were awful. But there's no accounting for taste:

I've looked at these over the past few years, but a few things keep putting me off, such as doors that apparently never seal and I don't really like the plastic switchgear.

I also prefer the bigger S1 Grille which was never used with the Coupe.

I've now switched my affections to an early Series 1 XJ6 4.2 Manual that I could hot rod a bit, or a S1 XJ12 SWB.

So many jags I've nearly bought over the last few years, the XJR-S 6.0 and X308 XJR being the two other main culprits!

S1 XJ6 is a stunning car, been on my search list for ages. A lot less plastic than the later S2 with that row of rocker switches across the dash. Last of the old school Jags IMO and they still drive really well great suspension giving compliance and roadholding.

Having had a Daimler XJC and a Ferrari 456 they both suffer the same with the sealing of the windows loved them both though.
Currently running a X300 4.0 Sovereign and love it even returns decent fuel consumption.
Too me it resembles the original very well without the classic niggles.

I imagine it’ll have a reserve of at least £150k. Doubt it’ll make much more than that, as they’ve proven to themselves that even as main dealer they couldn’t sell it at an asking of £169k.
Assuming this was about £220k new (with modest extras), it’s a £60k loss (minimum) in 2k miles. Painful.

The market seems to be slowing and softening. I expect the rise in interest rates is causing that. Potentially a great position for cash buyers though! Although, with £150k in the bank you can now get £9k a year in interest, risk free. Would you ditch that for one of these and watch it devalue further(?) …

Market does seem to softening but sellers still seem to over value and hence an increase in no sales, even here common cars are not making what they were even with the UK import market all but blocked by revenue charges. Rarer stuff is still holding value, as long as there is a buyer willing to pay.

Don't forget the buyer will attract a fee of £7.2k to buy on top of any sale price.

Yeah, based on 6% APR but don't forget tax on savings interest!

I see the MC20 didn’t make its reserve. No surprise. Time for the dealers to revalue their used stock…

What’s the trade value of a low mileage 1 year old MC20? £150k? Give it another 6 months, with even higher interest rates and a deepening recession, and then what - £130k?

Think I’d want the V12. Have you seen the floors on that though? I’ve been looking at 40’s and 50’s American stuff recently and there’s less rust on them than a 10 year old car from the UK.
Totally agree Tim and having worked on a few V12 Jaguars that's the charm and a lot easier to work on than you think my old XF V6 was harder.
My 27 year old XJ6 from Spain is in as new condition on the underside zero rust of any kind.
Brake calipers still zinced and everything that was painted black in perfect condition.
Coil springs like new.
Salt and Winter weather in the UK is the killer.

Trade price is basically CC price which is about £167k. I don’t think they’ll go there in next 6 months. Reason being is that if they did, you’d have one, @MikeyMaser would too, I’d have one, and I can think of around another 4-5 clients of mine who would. I think £149,950 is the bottom prior to Autumn 2024 unless leggy examples.

It’s the same as 7-8 years back; ‘I’ll have a 458 when they’re £100k’. They got to £120k and bounced, don’t wait for ‘too good to be true prices’ as someone will beat you to it and you’ll miss the boat. An 18 month old average spec 3000 mile MC20 that was £220k is a bargain when they’re <£150k so that’s the time to buy. The CC car needs to be around £165k to buy it, absolute bottom, so we still need 10% drop from the cheapest one available to get one below £150k.

As an owner, I’d be absolutely fuming with the sellers actions as they’ve immediately devalued everyone’s MC20’s by £15-20k. Glad I sold mine when I did.
