CAR AUCTIONS

Maybe, maybe as sometimes not, i'm not understanding the logic, by that logic why would anyone put something through an auction at all?

Many auctions I watch of late result in cars not being sold because they don’t hit reserve and then immediately afterwards they’re offered at a Buy it Now price, which they don’t sell at either! In theory a car should find its market value at auction but I know that I’ve sometimes been disappointed with results when I’ve sold things without reserve; it’s risky!

I've noticed that too. Is the high reserve due to the auction house 'selling' an optimistic minimum value or the owner's emotional value/too high an expectation?

I think that some of these online auctions have unrealistic reserves. But you have to be rich, daft or selling a dud to set not any reserve, it could sell for £1 if theres no interest.

I think there is a bit of a "non debate" debate happening here,
Non of the cars listed declare whether they had a reserve or not,
Non of the lots sold say if they did have a reserve whether it was met or not,
Non of the lots sold say whether the sale was down to some post auction behind the scenes haggling,
You would needed to have attended the auction to know for sure.
The only clue to any value expectations are the auction house estimates.
TBH i think the estimate for that particular car was not that high - £7500 - £9500. because of mileage?
Anyways, i didn't think it looked too bad for a late one with an MOT at breaker money ;)

There is a lot there that really works and is well resolved overall.

The front looks fabulous, the rear splitter and the paint job to draw the eye down the side both work well other than the rear quarter looks a little fussy by the paint job not lining up with the car's actual bodyparts, the tonneau cover is fabulous but surprised we don't see the roof up (has it been junked or too much faff to remove the cover?), the wheels are another great addition, and whilst I am not a fan of tan seats with red paint, the seat design looks a massively significant improvement on stock if just lacking a little in execution.

I wonder what it will reach.

I actually like that very much. A few parts are a bit fussy but nothing that some paint won't sort out. The boomerangs look extremely well integrated, and we know from Benny what a massive pita job that is. Clearly much work has gone into this.

I remember seeing a program on tv about the chap that commissioned this, totally bespoke, from memory the conversion was around £40k
