Soooooo

I have a list of cars that I'd quite like to own. And I should be able to buy one of in the next job iteration. Budget is £35k totally top. £30k is what I can get past the expenses committee but there are ways.....

Currently short list:

DB9 V12
Bentley GT Speed
Granturismo MC shift (worried that if I bought one of these, I'd never buy any of the others)

Two questions:
Why would I not add an R8 (other than it's an Audi)

What else might I look at? No 911s please. Had one as a loaner. Hated it.

Very similar situation as me a few years ago, although I wouldn't have had the Bentley on my list (I'm too young, and not a pro-footballer lol)

Why not an R8 ? - Because in that budget its not the V10, and a Nissan GTR would be a better option for a mental fast 4WD and still has rear seats.

Are rear seats important to you? As all your other option have them? The DB9 rear seats are next to useless as well.

Anyway, my choice was the Masser.

Really we need to know what's important to you.

No. of seats?
Noise?
Looks?
Fast?
Handling?
Prestige?
Passion?
Exiting to drive or a comfy cruiser?
What others think of you?
How old are you?

Ahhh right. Good point, thanks. So that's out.

LOL

In order:
2 is fine
Noise is good
Looks is awesome. GT was the best looking car I owned, but some are better than others and looks are in the eye of the beholder so it's a bit subjective
Fast is good. Although I am not Lewis
See above
Yes. Image
Passion good.
Little from column A, little from column B
Yes and no. If I'm happy, I don't give too much of a care
None of your damned business! ;). Just turned 50 so full MLC ;)

It makes perfect sense to go through all of these machinations before you buy a GTS. ;)
I have no doubt that this will be the outcome after I've tried the others....
If I could afford a 4 seat Strad (there is no conflict here) then I suspect the list would be rather shorter.

New Supra? Reliability of a daily & still rarely seen. If you are looking for 2021 there may be a few around by then. Currently 45k with 700 miles on them

The only negative with the Italian is it being so closely related and similar to your previous one. The Bentley would worry me in case a minor niggle turned out to be ruinously expensive.

Drive the DB9 and then decide between that and the GTS, which would need to be a totally different colour to your ol’ GT.

£30k would get you into a good AM Vantage which I think is so much better than the V12 versions. No doubt a GTS ticks all the boxes but as above similar to what you have had before. I would love a GTR but I don't see it as a car for you.

I think the Bentley is best suited to you, fast, comfortable and probably no more expensive to run than the others if bought well.

Do you like GTR's?
If so, due to you knowing that you'll own it for a max of two years, I would say GTR.
Reasons-
  1. In your price range you won't loose any money on it in 2 years. The current bottom has been static for about 5 years, give or take a couple of £k and I can't see any reason for that to change.
  2. Every petrol head should own one at some point just for the experience. They are pretty amazing cars!
  3. In two years you can sell it and get a nice low mileage GT Sport MC-Shift and keep it forever.
From your wants list, what they lack in prestige and looks, they get in attention and respect. I have never owned a car that got so much attention.
All your other wants it has in spades.

Cerbera maybe. 4 seats (ish), epic noise and looks (well I think so), mad interior. Quick and maybe high maintenance but they say that about GTs.

Yes, if going Aston, I would also go Vantage (but i need 4 seats). It would have to be a 4.7V8 or a V12 though. I found the 4.3 a bit underwhelming.
