Can’t upload pics (even small ones)

Morning Matt @conaero

Recently I’ve been struggling again with uploading pics. I’m getting the following error message:

Oops! We ran into some problems.
The uploaded image is too big.

I’m on an iPad Pro, up to date IOS, I’ve restarted Safari, closed and reopened the browser tab, logged out, with and without VPN, WiFi or 4/5G, tried Chrome and tried on my iPhone but the error is persistent so my conclusion is that it’s nothing to do with my devices. The image is only 1.1Mb so that can’t be the problem either.

I've also seen a message with something like a security issue advising me to press back and try again. I’ve seen some others note this as well.

I’ve been having this off and on lately, say the last week or three. Any ideas how to resolve this?

I‘ve posted many without problem but some will just not upload. Same device. So it seems that I can post screenshots but not pics I’ve taken myself. I just took a screenshot of the pic I took myself and it posted immediately - size 4.2Mb. So maybe the iPhone photo format? Which then must be different to the screenshot format?

Photos on iphone are stored in a database, not exactly like a 'photo' It may be the sharing settings for the photos app on the phone.

But it might not be

My raw Samsung photos (12 Megapixals 3K*4k) cause the too big error and are ~ 3MB so I have to email them to myself, choose the small size when asked if I want to downsize, send, download and then attach to the post! A faff, but workable.

There is something about that pic the uploaded don’t like. Try taking a screenshot of the pic on your phone and upload that.

I think it’s a dimensional size issue and not a file size issue. This screengrab is 5.2mb vs your orig 1.2mb and it uploaded fine

I just crop a bit off my photos if they are too big. , it seems to reduce the size of the file dramatically and overcomes the upload issue.

I’ve just been posting photos on an American vintage farm machinery forum (!) and ended up using the Image Size app. It was easy to use.
