Calling Gransport owners - a few questions

Hi - looks like a nice unit. Also nice to see something other than Alpine being considered. Never liked them.
Re: the viewing angle, as the head unit already sits at an angle the screen would require a negative tilt.
If I recall correctly what I think I recall seeing (?), the problem was this forward tilt wasn't quite enough.
Enough to give a neutral position overall. Hopefully, that makes some kind of sense.
If ever a picture was worth a 1000, etc., etc. If I find the picture I saw I'll post it.

I believe you're in Harpenden. Very nice. If you can get across to Bishops Stortford have a chat with the guys at Audiophile-Incar.

I am always fiddling with the heater controls so no pop up DIN for me in the GS. Stick with the Becker original which is completely unfathomable to use as it tried to be all things on a black and white DIN display. All adds to the charm of course. When I get me a 90s Audi I will also have to replace the inevitable 'upgraded' DIN radio with a crappy original Blaupunkt :)

Got talking to a guy on the Jaguar forum and turns out he is a Maser fan as well and just selling his Gransport. Looks very nice.

I’ve had a chat with the dealer selling this car is morning, and it sounds interesting.... Clutch wear is at 50% apparently, and the last service was done by the former owner, who is a technician at Keys Motorsports.

Black on Black would not be my 1st choice of colour combination, but if anyone local to Towcester were interested in having a squiz at it and a poke around, I’d be keen to hear your thoughts on it.

I might be able to pop over and have a look tomorrow if that works for the dealer?

I have something similar and it folds out fine and the screen is perfectly visible even in the brightest sun.

Thanks, I will when I get the car off SORN

I test drove this car today at Giallo. It’s done just over 31k miles, had a new clutch at 27+k, and felt like a tight, well maintained, car. The interior is also much nicer in the flesh than I thought it was going to be from the pictures.

Driving impressions were:

- Much smaller than my Granturismo (and feels it when sat in the drivers seat)
- The sport seats are “sportier”, with bigger side bolsters, and feels like a tighter fit (in a good way). They are also much firmer and feel lower. It’s a slightly harder car to get into and out of.
- The driving position felt good, and very clear view of the dials. I also really like the funny shape wheel and the carbon top half with the stripe to show you straight on.
- The ride is definitely a lot firmer, although we only really drove on a decent A road and a couple of decent quality main roads. Due to the timing and the weather, there wasnt much opportunity to really test the handling, but I did get a little twitch when accelerating off a roundabout
- the gear box would take me some time to get used to. It wasn’t at all bad, but just felt different, and the couple of times I tried to change gear without lifting slightly off the accelerator it was slightly jerky and a bit of a lag. However, it was smoother than I was expecting when going up the gears (e.g. 4th to 3rd).
- Exhaust note was quieter than my GTS, especially when not in Sport mode, but there was enough there to know you were driving a V8. It also got much better when in Sport mode.
- Road noise and amount of shudder from the road was also more noticeable
- Performance felt quick - maybe because it’s a little smaller, but it felt just as fast as my GTS
- Little things like air conditioning controls, petrol cap release, stereo, etc, all felt older and slightly retro / vintage.

Overall, I enjoyed the drive, and I now have a decision to make!
What are your reasons for changing? It seems to me most people seem to go the other way around. Your gTs is lovely. Wouldn’t this seem like a backward step in terms of sound and tech? Won’t you take a hit on part ex etc?

Hi Iain,

I think some people would view it as a backwards step, but I fancy more of a sports car rather than a grand tourer. At times I really notice how big, wide and heavy my GT S is, and a GS is much smaller and more focussed as a driver’s car ( at least I hope so!)...

I’m sure I will have to make some mods to get the sound of the engine and the exhaust anywhere near what my current car has, but that will be part of the fun.

That makes sense John. I did initially wonder what a gransport would be like as the GTs was a little big- but the sounds, looks and big back seats swung it for me. I advise not to spend too long looking at autotrader in Gransport money territory though...

Lol that is why I got an XK as well. Stupendous value for money but rear seats useless.
Gransport rear seats are as big as, maybe bigger, than GranTurismo. They did a great packaging job on this car (probably the GranTurismo had to have more stuff built-in for legislation or whatever taking up more room). I think Gransport is best looking most usable true 4 seater coupe out there.

I’ve underlined the problem with that plan... I need four proper seats, as my kids are 14 and 11, and are almost adult sized...

Exactly. I can confirm my partner has sat in the back of the GS on a 80 mile round trip and declared it very comfy.

I owned a GS and GT at the same time- GS lovely as a weekend car, GT as a DD.

As much as I loved the raw feeling of the GS, the GT offers a much more refined and sexy package and I would struggle to recommend that you pay money over your GT for a GS as much as I love it.
