Hi P, you might want to repeat the test numerous times at different times throughout the day as, with the possible exception of Matt, we're all sharing our connections, so it varies dramatically dependent on activity. I'm getting an average of 6.1 meg from an 8 meg home package. I'm getting about 0.4 meg upload (at the moment). I have a house full of Mac's and so use Demon who are Mac specialists. I pay well over the odds, but I never have problems, I've never needed to call them (other than general queries) and I've never had cause to complain, so no news is good news in my book.

It's shared usage P. We're at peak activity. Try again in the morning and throughout the day. Does sound as though you're being short-changed though.

Checking mine just now I get 488kbps, and that's quite good for me, sometimes it's lower. Have had long discussions with both AOL and BT before now...I live in the countryside miles from the exchange, and the line is buried underground (which they tell me is worse than above ground for interference). Oh well, at least it stops me downloading any dodgy films - would take 3 days!!

Hi P, well yes, robbed is probably a better description.

So I see you're close to your exchange, which is good but by far not the defining factor. Do you live in a populated area, ie many users off the exchange? Is the cable overhead to your home? What is the cabling like once it gets to your home? Running down the outer wall? Buried in render? The 'cleaner' your connection to the exchange the better and a relatively easy thing to improve if you think you're homes cabling is either old, compromised or damaged. A good analogy it a TV aerial. The better the aerial, the clearer the picture. (give me a slap when I finally meet you if I'm teaching you to suck eggs)

E, no slaps...for someone whose helping, not sure how many share the line etc......live in a development of 20 houses, its a 20yr old house, buried cable, not sure how it gets indoors.......even so, should it be that bad?

I must ask my neighbours too.
