no such thing as grandfather rights although during transition I very much doubt anybody will worry about reg flags - much bigger issues to solve
Yes there is and we're exercising them a lot.
Seatbelts being one, if a car was pre-1965, or 67 I think, then they do not have to have them. Therefore grandfather rights.

Not sure seatbelts in classic cars are grandfather rights - there was no legal requirement to fit them and you can't retrospectively apply the law to them. The regulations for current cars reg plates states that a member state must be displayed in the yellow stars which it obviously now can't be for GB, UK, ENG, SCO, CYM so you can't comply if you go into the EU - grandfather rights may be accepted at some point in the future but there's no default right. Probably better just to get an old skool GB sticker to ensure the Gendarme don't have an excuse

The Gendarmes won't give a hoot...

Anyway, you shot your foot with your argument

'you can't retrospectively apply the law to them' -----That's what Grandfather rights are!

You’re both wrong ;)There’s no grandfather rights with seatbelts as the regs are about the car at day of manufacture, there’s no retrospective application as the point of applying them has passed.

I thought that's what I said but I ain't no lawyer - I wish I was because they are going to be making some hay over the coming months/years

What about red indicators on 60's/70's American cars, you have to change them now don't you?
I would have thought that's only the case if imported after the date of compliance.

It was just an example...

My point was, that if a law changes and your car, house, contract, whatever complied with the law before then it has a special status known as Grandfather Rights.

Feeling smug that I never bought any of those poxy EU plates. Stick-on GB signs have always been the way forward.

Looks like the Ponzi needs to move the goalposts again.

EU takes first step to overhaul its fiscal rules
The European Commission took the first step on Wednesday to overhaul the fiscal rules that underpin the euro by launching a public consultation to help find common ground among deeply divided governments.

It's started......

Isn't this exactly the same disruption they were talking about if we had a No Deal Brexit?

Sounds like it to me.
