Brake Disk Skimming?

Does anyone have any experience with having there brake disks skimmed using the Pro-cut system where the disks are skimmed on the car?. When it was in for a service last, i was advised that my Gransport could do with some new rear disks and was wondering whether this is worthwhile or not in the short term due to the scarcity of brake disks ? (I only do max 1000 miles per year). I did have my name down for the last group buy of disks, so hopeful that this order may eventually be fulfilled by the manufacturer, then they can be swapped with a new set.

As usual, your advice is appreciated.

Cheers

I would say this is definitely the route you should go. As the discs remain on the hub which is spun, you get perfect runout to the actual hub.

Obviously just make sure your disc have enough meat on them before you do but the company doing it will advise you.

New pads goes without saying naturally.

Thanks Matt.

I've got a full set of EBC Yellow Stuff pads waiting to go on, so will get these done when i get the disks skimmed. I've checked the thickness and they look as though they've got plenty of life left in them yet.

Factory diecs only have 2mm of hardened surface so be aware if you 'skim' past this any degradation will be accelerated.

If the discs are not seriously pitted and there is no imbalance I personally can't see the point of skimming - but happy to be educated by a professional.
