Brake disc wear

Evening all

I’ve just been having a nose around the car and noticed that the front discs looked a bit lippy. Now I don’t remember them being this obviously worn when I looked last, but that was probably 1200 miles ago when I bought the car.

I must admit I had thought that the brakes had been a little soft the last time I drove the car.

How long should a set of discs last up front? They are the originals, so 15k miles/9 years old.

Thanks,
Will

Loads of pad left, certainly on the outside anyway.

I don’t have anything to measure them with, guess I’ll need to invest

Should do fine with a sufficient degree of accuracy. Sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

TBH even if the discs were close to minimum I'd wait until the pads are done.

I’ve got a set of Vernier callipers in the garage but they’re flat sided.. I’m sure I can get creative and modify them accordingly.

Also need to find the minimum thickness measurement from somewhere

Put a spacer on either side of the disc measure with vernier and then measure the spacers and minus from first figure OR buy new measuring sticks. MORE TOOLS......

You should be able to get a set of vernier calipers in there at a slight angle, just make sure the cut out in the legs clears the lip. Standard thickness is 32mm with 30mm being the minimum thickness. I’d say your pads were about half worn which is about right for 15k miles.

Stamped on the edge, normally, is it not?
