The new Ghibli comes with, I believe, a 280 watt 8 speaker system.

Upgrade to the premium system, Bowers & Wilkins, 1280 watts and 15 speakers and yu are looking at £3,360 .........GULP ........

Car comes with satnav as standard.

Interesting visit to the dealer today ;)

My options list is thankfully very short .... No alcantara headlining for me when I could buy a decent three piece suite for the equivalent LoL

Eesh! Those B&W yellow cones look and sound good, but that's a lotta loot.

Marc, how do ex-demo cars match up to your spec? B&W - at least with Jags - was quite commonly spec'd on the demo cars. I'd never have spec'd it on mine but was delighted to have it on the ex-demo one I bought.

My CLS was ex-demo and was very highly specced including the Harmon Kardon, but respectfully it was nowhere near that sort of money. It's too early for ex-demo chat however as the first cars arrive at DL in October and they are all, and I mean all (10) diesels. No petrols till January .....

Shame. Fair point though. Demo cars are normally kept for what, 3 months? I guess you'd be looking at 9 months from now before any ex-demo petrols come along.

For the diesels demos will be around in New Year I expect, with 3,000 miles ........ But in all honesty I think the cars will sell in advance and won't be sitting there on a forecourt ..........

£3,360? That's utterly ridiculous! A professional audio company could install an award-winning system for that money or an excellent system for half. I'd be happy without the 'upgrade' so I could spend my own money on something that sounded good. 15 speakers probably includes tweeters and mid range counted as separate speakers and I'd imagine that 1280 watts is peak power rather than RMS. Overpriced marketing bullish!t IMO.

I listened to the B&W system in the new QP6. It was pretty good but by no means blew me away. Now that I understand the price, there is no way I would fork out for it from new.

I agree that if the sound system is more standard (i.e. none of the Bose trickery) then you could easily upgrade to a higher-end amp and speaker at less cost.

I assume you mean in car, as opposed to home system :)
And that *has* to be some kind of mysterious marketing watt. Otherwise I suspect the SPL would blow the windows out.

Quite a 1280 Watt system would give you a nose bleed everytime you went beyond 30% volume!

It's BS. Get the standard system and upgrade what you want if you really are an audiophile.

Personally I never think you can get excellent sound in a car, for a start you are sat completely in the wrong position.

I would take the money and put it towards a blinding home stereo system.

That's true. About 10 feet behind the exhausts is where the best sounds are with our cars.

DINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDING :)

The *right* answer :)

Towards is about right. Or you could buy an 'OK' system, I guess :)

Some of the speakers you can buy are like works of art. Unfortunately, when we finally get to live in the new house, we don't have huge amounts of space and it's a terrace, so no floorstanders for me. Instead, satellites that can be "hidden".

When I finally move detached house (in 10 years time) though....

Oh dear. I do feel for you. I don't have floorstanders, rather standmounts. Mostly as I simply cannot stomach the £3k to upgrade to the better floorstanders that I am advised.

I'm not even allowed bookshelfs, not even bookshelfs!

The satellite's will do for a while, I might try to convince the other half that speakers do look beautiful....

I can dream can't I?

Oh dear. You'll have to come round. Mrs Catman was suggesting we spend the £3k....

What's your setup then C?

The best I had was probably when I was at Uni and so didn't mind a room full of speakers and had a Kenwood amp (3030R if I remember correctly), a very fancy Signature Marantz CD player, a Denon FM Tuner, a Sony Minidisc(!) and I'd also spanked a bit of cash on interconnects. Speakers were some very old KLH's from the US that sounded brilliant. It took me from the age of 16 to 19 to put that together. It now sits in my parents loft :(

That was then replaced with a Denon surround amp and Jamo satellites.

Cyrus Stream XP2 QX
Cyrus Smart Power
PSX-R
Monitor Audio Gold Reference 10s on Soundstyle stands.
Chord silver siren cables, IIRC and QED Silver 25th anniversary to the speakers.

I have a mate who works for Cyrus, which is rather super. He was getting me some Vienna Acoustic Mozart SE's at about £2k off, but sadly they'd gone missing :(

I've just had a small crisis! Awesome setup C.

I never knew that Cyrus would have stepped into the streaming area. Do you stream off a Cyrus device, or, does it read off a networked hard drive or something else?

I bet it sounds beautiful. Monitor Audio have always produced lovely speakers, they are a favourite of mine.

How odd, when i think beautiful floorstanders I always think of a family friend's Vienna Acoustics which are stunning.
