Boot help

Hello, I'm new. I'll pop up a post to say hi soon, I usually just browse the forum as theres a lot of info and normally I find my answer! Sorry, first post is a question!

My boot release has stopped working, so I've been using the cable under the rear set to open it. I've checked the setting in the system to be sure and powered the car off and on to see if that resets it, but neither the key fob, the boot button on the dash or the boot handle will operate the solenoid.

Before I go changing parts, is there anything else I need to consider?

Thanks in advance.

2009 4.2 Granturismo is my car.

I think I would start by looking at the wiring loom where it crosses from the boot into the car.
I think others have bad problems with the wires fracturing. Hope you get it sorted

This exactly, although I think there's a fuse and possibly a relay that will be quick and easy to check, although just looking through the manual I can't see any.

Using the key:
Lock
Unlock
Press and hold the boot button till it pops

Also check you have the remote opening of the boot enabled in the NIT settings

I'm not sure if this is much help but the previous owner of my Granturismo had an issue with the boot not opening.

The garage who fixed it put this note in the copy of the invoice.

I was hoping this solution would be it, but unfortunately, with the setting ticked or unticked in the computer, neither the key fob, the boot button or the boot lid button work. Thank the Italians for the secret pull chord.

The indicators double flash when I press and hold the button, which I believe should happen.

Next I'll peel back the cable coverings between the boot lid and car and go from there.

I'll update this post with a resolution (or ive given the car to a specialist) if needs be.

I had precisely this issue a few weeks ago, and I initially thought it was the "normal" Italian gremlins in the electrics. It turned out to be a wire broken in the rubber conduit going to the boot lid (as described elsewhere). The conduit is fairly easily removed from either end (boot lid and body), and it is then possible to expose the wiring to check for breaks. I fed a new wire through the conduit, and soldered it to the ends of the broken wire which I had removed from the conduit. That means that the repair is not actually within the conduit (and therefore not subject to the straining caused by the normal opening and closing). Fingers crossed it's still working.

This morning I disconnected the battery completely and after a few minutes, arced the positive and negative to discharge the capacitors etc. No joy, which I expected.

I've checked the conduit and its a little difficult to see all the wires in the middle, so its a boot lid covering off and go from there.

Times a litle bit of an issue, so will be a short while before I've found the solution.

To complete the thread, boot now sorted.

There was no break in the cable, however I did locate two cables that had signs of brittleness. So I soldered a new wire in place for those.

The boot solenoid had unplugged itself. There were no obvious signs it had been removed before, however this is likely the only explanation.

For future repairers, there is enough slack on the cable to unbolt the catch and pull the connectors through, rather than taking off the boot lid cover. The micro switch on the boot lid handle is easy to remove also.

Error spots:
Boot lid to boot cable location. There were breaking wires there.
Boot lid switch
Opening and closing solenoid (also in the boot lid.)

Cheers all.

If you behave then we will give you another go. We knew it was you all along plus the various other accounts you tried.

Just take peoples advice that you ask in the manner it is intended and we will all get along fine, ok?

there is nothing but good behaviour from me.
Genuinely looking forward to an update on your car and as you have seen from recent posts, lots of help and advice on here.
I am tempted to say you should come back as “Spoons”, oh and be prepared for the banter coz it will come for sure ………
With your posts before you were walking on a knife edge :D
