Cheers Arnie, followed link but cant see original advert, guess have to be registered user to see links etc... ? But will double check when go to look at car, any reapir to wheel arch should be easy enough to spot (i hope) :)

I expect a dealer to have wacked price up on what they paid for it, and give it a great write up :) so was taking advert with a pinch of salt anyway :)

Cheers for all advice so far guys :)

The only thing I would add is take it for a good test drive to make sure the engine management light (check engine light) does not come on. The only issues I have had is knock sensors, throttlebody, ABS unit, and a few electrical gremlins which I sorted out; otherwise very happy. Had mine for 6 years, drive it almost every day and looked after it myself (I am an engineer) with the help from this forum and bob Houghtons' SD3! I know what everybody is saying about full service history but if you know what to look, for less than perfect history you can yield a bargain. I will never sell it! Probably because it has not service history!!
Never fails to put a smile on my face on the way to work and on the way home. Love it!

Hi, i was interested in looking at this car...the dealer seemed reasonable, i have bought elsewhere now...seems to be that most of the comments regarding common problems you have had through...generally not all of these problems may occur but if the work had been done its peace of mind...as you know italian cars can be expensive!
On the manual version, check clutch replaced, genuine regular servicing every year not by mileage, any works completed by md or specialists, (the following i am forwarding to you from an owner who helped me when looking) good brake discs/pads. You should buy a car with a red key, and not accept bodywork rust (under the lights or on the rear arches) – there are plenty that have no rust. Servicing is every 12k miles or 12 months…whichever comes sooner, so don't be fobbed off with “full service history†if one has just been serviced every 12k miles (as sometimes this can mean several years between services). Cambelts are every 3y/36k miles – not massively expensive, but do need doing so should be factored in. Cam chains are meant to be at 68k miles and a cost of £1200-1500....very few people get them done though!
The throttlebody and the throttle potentiometer are probably the most common cause of problems – the former can be refurbished for about £450 (instead of replacement for £1800+) and the latter are replaced for about £700…though are less often a problem. Good if you can find a car that's had this done. Suspension wishbones can be expensive, so listen for any knocks. You may have read about crankshaft endfloat, which can affect some cars – it can be checked in about 5 mins by a specialist, and I would insist on this before purchase. Everyone recommends getting an inspection by a specialist to cover yourself as it may save you money. I've always at least had endfloat checked and phoned the garage that has been servicing the car. Phew, that's probably the main ones. I probably make it sound bad, but if you buy carefully they are fantastic, reliable cars. I had my previous car for two years and it never needed anything other than routine servicing and a clutch (which I knew when I bought it). Hope this helps.

As Loz says the big service should have included cam chains as well as belts, rightly or wrongly this has a big impact on value. There are many who deem the chain swap a bit too belts and braces, and equally many who wouldn't take the risk!

I bet dealers curse forums like this!!!

As paco said, with 75k on the clock, both those chains should have been done.
Speak to any indie and they insist they must be done. Try finding one that says, "nah just leave them until they're noisey". btw job costs £1200-1800. These chains are critical, running 12 inches aroud sprockets linking rear of inelt & exhaust cams on each bank. The front of one camshaft on each bank is driven by the belt.

Surely most cars with cam chains, have chain replacement "as required". The duplex chains driving all the valve gear in our 911 are about 9 feet long and have travelled 188,000 miles without issue.

Looks nice, but silver 4200 wheels on 3200 not my cup of tea. Good price if it all stacks up. Should also have Stainless rear boxes by now. Mentiosn new pads (cost nothing), but not disks so budget $$ soon for these.

The only ones I can think to add to that are worn drivers seat bolsters, can be fixed by treating the area with the correct colour conolising fluid. Steering wheels have a habit of de laminating and windscreen wipers can judder on the intermittent phase, which results in the whole unit needing replacing.

Aircon problems can be very expensive so make sure this works and look our for ABS lights. This can be a simple fix by replacing the pick up rings on each hub but if its the ABS ECU, its going to cost you dear! Endfloat is the most important to have checked. Also check the oil pressure. 5 bar cold, at idle and revs, 2.5 bar hot idle and 5 bar at revs. This will give you a good idea of the condition of the engine...oh and the pressure senders fail all the time, about £200 to have done.

Clutches can slip and also if the pedal feels very stiff or creaks, the clutch bearings (manual) have a habit of going bang, rendering the car unusable.

Some one once told me a 3200 costs circa £3k a year to run, I thought rubbish, but mine ended up costing twice that, and I am handy with the spanners!

Sounds all doom and gloom but when they are on song, they are magic!
