Perhaps we have been along this little route before but, yet again I have spent time watching Jeremy Clarkson does what he does best; becomes remote from design as function! He has singularly failed to understand for what purpose the GranTurismo was designed.

I recall something similar happening when he reviewed the 4200 way back.
...and here is is again, doing just the same again.
I do have a serious problem with most pundits who compare every car with some 'pie-in-the-sky' yardstick (sorry mixed metaphors) they quite like or have driven in some particular way. In JC's case it's compared with driving flying laps around an airfield in a car with a V12.
But it's not how we judge cars - well 99% of us don't anyway!

Then at the other extreme is the lamentable AutoExpress (to which I inadvisably subscibe) who test everyday cars , or used to until they discovered German cars (and German hospitality) and now find French, British and Japanese cars less fascinating. Pre-conceived notions abound.

Poor old JC must hate driving everyday with 20,30,40 and 70mph limits, being careful of children on the roads, being stuck behind caravans, lorries and cyclists. It's what we all have to do for most of the time so we therefore judge our cars against such criteria. It may seem trite but having my Maserati gives me a buzz, and apart from being superb to drive (flappy paddles and all) I relish the heritage, I adore the quirks and strange as this may seem, Jeremy, I arrive at my destiantion with a huge smile on my face.
I'll tell you in a little over a week's time if the Ferrari 599, the Aston DBS and the Lambo Murcielago on the track can wipe away that smile ...but I don't think so.

I dont take him seriously, its entertainment to me....you want a car review buy evo or even what car.....
His review of the 4200 said it all, he never bothered to get to know the gearbox he just ridiculed it....hammonds GS review was more like it

Its all politics, how much to they earn from these companies?? Will clarkson ever say he likes a nissan?? When in his book he admits he will never give them good publicity as they always make it difficult for him to drive their cars after years of **** taking the brand....they kicked him out of a journalist invited preview of the qasquai....so how is he going to say that a few of their cars are good??

Also do you think mercedes give him cars?? Seem to always say good things bout them

Mark, I have fixed the video link for you.

Yes, I have seen that a while back and yes, it did annoy me. I dont know just what he was expecting?

If James May had done the test you know he would have loved it (does not say much, he only rates a car on its ride) and Hammond would have been enthusiastic about it I am sure.

I also get the feeling that James, Hammond and the production crew did not agree with him, hence why this sequence was never aired on TG, it was purely just released to the internet.

Its also funny how they have not reviewed the GT on TG, the S nor even the Stradale, very, very odd!

And whats even more funny is that they all drove the QP 4.2 and the 4.7 and loved it.....and its the same bl00dy car underneath, arrrrgggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!

I make a habit of buying cars JC doesn't like, first TVRs now Massers, I really don't care what he has to say, the sales of the GT speak for themselves.

Clarkson's a Mercedes Lover.
Hammond loves Porsche ...notice the common link yet?

TEUTONIC!
Nothing wrong with that but just no soul!

But dear old James May loves anything with character. How many other journalists have Fiat Pandas.
Incidentally is his the 100HP version?
I would like one of those myself - a bit like a Arbarth 500!

I reckon these guys are certainly influenced by the manufacturers. I think JC misses the point of the GT, its precisely that we don't drive our cars at the limit all the time, that makes the Maserati a good car. It practical, stylish, and has a huge feel good factor which is not just to do with the handling, and clinical performance. One of my workmates here just sold his Cayman because he was getting back problems driving on lumpy roads on the way to work. i think its the very nature of the compromise between hard nosed racer and comfortable tourer that defines these cars, and its what JC dislikes. I had a modified TVR before my 3200 and it was a hard nosed racer and better on a track then the mas for sure but day to day, no comparison, Maserati every time. Half the people I met didn't like the TVR, I have yet to meet any one who didn't like the Maserati, (with the exception of JC)

This image of JC after his holidays last year seems very apt

I think Clarkson heard the sexy noises on the start-up and expected more. But it's a comfy heavy GT, which - as Matt points out - is essentially a QP.

Few would agree with him on the looks thing, though I do agree with his comment about the wheels!

Far too gentle for him; but that is exactly what he misses about it.

Also Conaero, thanks for fixing the link; what had I done incorrectly should I get another dose of
Anticlarksonophobia?
Funnily enough I don't mind him as a bloke. Just a shame he has to speak or write words!
