Battrey Drain 4200 Coupe

I have a 05 4200 Coupe that's developed a battrey drain problem. I first noticed this when I came back from a week away but today is the fourth time I have had to call the AA out, after the car sat for just 26 hours.

I'm told it must be an intermittent drain as they can't seen any drain at the time they connect up the amp meter. It's been to the garag who say they can't see a fault but 4 AA call outs in 6 weeks is a clear cut case I'd say.

Anyone have any thoughts ?

Thanks
Steve

G...invariably its the tracker doing the draining......its own battery gives up....drains the main car battery...there are a few threads on it here....if you need to find its location and disconnect it.

thanks for that, the guy I bought it from said it didn't have one but reading this forum I'm starting to think it must have.

Do you know how to check I saw one post with a number to call COBRA and check.

Thanks again

Was he the only owner.....it didn't come with any other info ?

G...do a search for tracker, its all there to read! Not sure COBRA was the original tracker fitted.

I have a tracker and even though it has its own battery it does source a small amount of power from the main battery. My battery was from 2007 and the car had stood idle a lot before I bought the car. The battery soon started to drain on a regular basis and in the end a new Bosch battery was the solution. Since the change I can leave the car for a week at a time and it fires up beautifully every time.

How old is your battery?

All UK Masers from Coupe onwards have the Navtrak system fitted. Most dont renew the contract when it expires, hence the fact yours does not have one...but it does. Its still there, and still draining the battery. Take the rear parcel shelf out and see if its screwed to the underside. Just disconnect the blighter and see if that stops it.

Its simple to do, here is a guide on how to do it, should take an hour max.

Thanks all. Turns out there is a Navtrak fitted. I called them and they gave the it's disconnected it won't take any charge line but they also suggested I took it to a dealer to have it fully disconnected, now there's a contradiction.

Glad I joined and looking forward to speaking with you all soon.

Matt

Is that a standard location for the tracker - any way of telling before taking the shelf out?

going belt and barces at this as I don't have that much time to play around it seems like it may be a good idea to start with a new Battrey. HR Owen report £200 for the official Maserati Battrey and £74 to fit it. Seems a bit steep to say the least. Any thoughts on this or another heavy duty battrey for the 4200 Coupe, what it should cost and where I can get one fitted ?

Cheers

Hi Gibleticous, You could take a look at the Varta Ultra Dynamic or the Bosch Silver plus. Both have specifications that are better than the Fiamm. Cheers, Miles.

G......check the size, ie dimensions in cms, post location( both on same side of battery?) and amperage per hour on your current battery, then get one a bit better....ie I think they are 69/70....get a 74/75 amp per hour, usually you can get branded ones for £70-85......phone around! They are awkward to fit....there may even be a fix on this....check the fixes section.

Hi,
You can get gel batteries such as the Optima Red Top which will do a job and are cheaper.
They are also easier to recharge when they fall to very low voltages.
A good garage should be able to either detect the drain or rule out the battery. There are other possibilities such as faulty stereo, the classic rear interior light staying on,etc.
I would suggest checking that the OEM battery is ok before shelling out for a new one.
They are a doddle to fit so don't get the Stealership to do it.
Cheers,
Pat

anyone know if a 2004 spyder would have a navtrack and if so where it is and what it looks like?
I have today found a flat battery and truth is i had it checked about 1 week ago and it was fine but needed a charge.I do a fair few trips so it should be full but then maybe something is draining it.
Its a 74AH 600 amp battery and i think it may be a little bit weak for my car as i have a lot of exetricals that the coupe dont have (like roof)

Sorry to be repetitious but all will be solved if you use a battery conditioner -assuming your battery is serviceable. The CTEK XS800 is identical to the Maserati branded item.

I put a Bosch Silver Plus on mine a couple of months back, about £85.00 much better when starting. However I dont use my car every day so turn off the battery isolator when it sits in the garage for a week or more.
