I realised that the battery on mine was starting to give up..So i went to the boot and began to remove her.

AND..what did i see?? It is Italian built...but the best part of it was that it's the old style battery...the one you should fill in with fluid.

Thougts...never replaced..I am really surprised..but what i'm doing now?fill her with fluid or get a new one? Due to winter coming i would think to fill her with fluid, cause in winter i do not drive the Mas. What do you think?

if there is really some fluid (purified water) missing than refill it, and use it till the winter comes. I think it makes no sense to get a new one and have it unused during winter time.. Best would be to get a new at seasons opening next year (if the condition of the current still allows starting/driving)

The Maserati item is nothing more than a rebadged CTEK charger... and one of the lower end models at that!

Thanks for your tips! Will try to fill with fluid first!

Will the charger be suitable for old style batteries?

Buying the Ctek saves about half the price and it is suited for your type of battery. Please also consult the specs of the charger.
The Maserati manual mentions its Ctek origin.

basically charger and maintaiiner is just the mode of operation for thse CTEK and the Maserati/Ferrari/Aston Martin .. re-branded CTEK chargers. In charging mode they charge the batterie with eg, 3.6 , 5 or whatever they have as nominal Ampere rating in their type name In maintenance mode they just keep the batterie full by charging in pulse mode withe lower corrent (eg 2. Ampere).
Addittionally they have a mode to remove some sulfat from the electrodes when possible to extend capacity

Nikos,
Try Distilled Water, you should be able to buy it from a motorist shop, or garage, then stick the charger on for a couple of hours. Switch off for a couple of hours, then charge again and see if the battery is holding charge, if it's flat, you will probably need a new battery. You can recover batteries, but you need to check through the filler holes to see if the plates are bent, or distorted in any way, if they are the battery is probably no good, if the plates are straight, you can probably recover it with fresh Distlled Water. It will need a bit of charging if you replace all the fluid, but you can get them back up to spec.
Cheers

I can't say enough good things about the CTEK units. With a deep cycle recondition mine brought back from the dead, the battery in my 911 and now it holds a charge and can go for a couple of weeks without going flat. With other chargers I couldn't get it to recover enough to go more than a couple of days.

Am a big fan as well & have it hooked up. My onlyconcern is when the car is away from the umbillical cord for an extended period, the prospect of a battery that has theoretically gone passed it used by date quickly dying comes into play.

I guess there must be a point where a battery change should take place even though the gizmo still shows a healthy state - thoughts?

I have been using the Ctek charger and it is great but I'm sick of undoing the negative termainal then put in the radio code everytime.

Can I ask:

1/. Do you guys undo the negative termainal before hook up the Ctek charger?

2/. Hook it up with all terminals in place?

3/. Turn off the battery switch and hook uip the Ctek?

I have installed the comfort indicator panel on the inside of the trunk lining near the battery door flap. Then it's just simple matter of plugging in the comfort connector. Nothing to undo or unscrew and it also shows you the approximate state of your battery. Takes seconds to connect and go.

With a conditioner I don't undo any terminals. You just put the relevant clip on the relevant terminal, switch on and walk away. The only thing to remember is to unclip the conditioner before you drive away or you will be buying new ones on a regular basis!

agree - CTEK comes with a clip arrangement -one end is attached permametly to the battery terminals & the other end has a nifty clipin/off to the charging unit

Abyss, dont understand why u need to switch off if u have the above arrangement in place

Neil, that's a very neat installation for the comfort charger kit. Yes I have that as well and I know I can plug it easily but I just like to separate the power when charging. This way anything happen to the house electricity won't affect the car electric device like alternator etc.

The only surges in electricity in Melbourne are the prices!! Petrol might be cheap but electricity up 85% in 5 years!!

In line with the UK then Geoff , i know the saying goes you cant winnem all , just sometimes in the UK it would be nice to win something , even if its a toddler at chess
