Auto box problems!!!!!!!!!

Hi i havnt been on the forum for a while due to work commitments. I have a 2000 3200gt auto. If i drive on local roads amd keep it under 60mph all is fine, sometimes a little slow in changing but fine. If i go onto motorway and get above 70mph the ASR & ABS lights come on after a few miles and stay on until i stop. When i restart and drive the lights go out and stay out as long as i keep uner 70mph. Also when the lights are on if i ease off the accelarator the box drops a gear even at 70mph upwards. Has anyone any idea what the problem could be??? It is going to JCT600 Leeds on thursday for a re-call to have a new steering rack fitted but i dont think they will be very helpfull if i ask what the problem may be and i cant afford dealer price to find out. I have a garage and im a mot tester so i would have a go myself IF i knew what the fault was. Thanks Edd:sad1:

Aks them for a SD2-3 print out, should cost about £50-80 and should give you the codes of what is wrong.

Have you by any chance changed your tyre/wheel sizes from standard?

i have experianced a similar sympton with my 3200 auto, with the asr light coming on at this speed, though mine did not have the abs light on,but did experiance brake issues, this turned out to be the phonic rings on the rear driveshafts being corroded, and loosing its signal.

Dem the recall was to do with the racks mounting points and was remedied by welding and strengthening this. Not heard of the rack having to be replaced.

My guess is (one of) the ABS sensors indeed.

I would agree with deano and Luuk on this , remember deano having similar probs (sonic ring /sensor last year , as for the recall , most were carried out early on in the coupes lives , this one obviously slipped through the net , may well find that continued use and slackness of the mounting brackets has resulted in the rack needing replacement aswell

True Loz, maybe all the movement has eaten into the casting of the rack, hats off to Maserati for stumping up this, most place would have welded it up and ignored the rack.

Thanks for the ideas

Thanks for all the ideas, I have not changed any wheel tyre size it has orignal wheels on and i fitted new tyres when i bought the car in June 2010. mine is a early car so there is no OBD plug on it to retreive any codes. It could well be a abs sensor as the car had stood outside un-used for over a year when i bought it and the last owner told me there was no gearbox faults the last time he used it, ( i know him and know he is telling the truth)I will ask the dealer if they can check the ABS sensor with the dealer equiptment. I was told that new steering rack and mountings would be fitted as it had missed the 1st recall and the work should take 5-7 days to complete. Would a ABS fault make the box drop a gear when you lift iff the accelarator??? ( wonder if they will loan me a new grandturismo while mine is getting repaired!!!!!) I will take it on my recovery truck as its 100mile away and i wont get the ABS/GEARBOX fault sorted before then. Thanks again for all the help. Has any other members been invited to the Maserati Track 1/2 day at Elvington race track later in the year??? 1/2 on the trck to try all the Maserati range is an offer you can not go to.

yes an ABS sensorcould caause the gearbox to drop down a gear,as it is getting conflicting speed signals,in relation to road speed,(taken from abs sensor)crank speed and also throttle blade position, along with gearbox speed, the poor thing gets a little confused,as we all do

Wll done, get it sorted before ABS sensor kills your ABS ecu and pump.
Ask me how I know!!!

Anyone got a spare ABS pump/ECU?

Hi Edd,

What was the eventual solution to your problem(s)? I am particularly interested to possible causes / fixes for the RCY fault light and associated symptoms, namely, RCY comes on above c. 70mph and autobox drops a gear with an accompanying thud; RCY light may clear, or CHECK ENGINE light comes on and car goes into limp mode.

Alternatively, was there a separate issue with the ABS that led to the apparent gearbox fault? Deano seems to be suggesting that these faults can be connected...?

Thanks,

Simon.
