At last my 4200 6MT GS Stylee

Apologies it's been awhile, but at last the saga of the hit and run tw*t at the golf club and the ensuing battle with the insurance company is over - my car is back! All in its been off the road for about 2 months and so glad to have her back.

Having convinced the insurance company to replace the old front with a GS front, I acquired GS side sills and 19" rims, bought a new rear bumper and JP kindly donated his old rear boot lid spoiler. The sills, wheels, as well as a GS steering wheel and left hand window regulator all came at a fraction of the cost from a wreck here in the UAE (prior post - and huge thanks to JP for the find!) So, voila, I now have a GS facelift 2002 4200 manual and I think she's beautiful!

Along the way, I've also had fitted FD sport springs, 15mm wheel spacers front and rear, the FD DBW, new rubber gators around the headlamps and wing mirrors, as the old ones were a bit perished (v cheap fix). Unfortunately though, the springs installation wasn't plain sailing, as the garage that did the original install damaged one or both of the rear shocks - so had those replaced too - but now all good and driving amazingly!!

Anyway, I took the opportunity this morning to go and take some new pics...

Kind regards

Very nice job Buster you would not know the difference now would you. Any plans to upgrade the interior or are you sticking with the stock 4200?

.....lovely stuff Buster........looks the camels thingies......:).......its great when after a few difficulties and sticking points that it all comes together......am totally jealous of that black, smooth stuff shes sitting on....what I wouldn't do for a decent bit of tarmac over here.........

Have a blast...enjoy.....and let us know how you get on with her now shes been re-incarnated...:)

Your car looks great Buster. I love the lower and wider stance. I had thought I'd go 25mm wider at the back of mine, but having seen yours I'm having a bit of a re-think. Tell me, it may just be a trick of the light and shadows, but it looks like the rear right corner is sitting a bit high in that last photo?

Hi Matt - many thanks - v different!

Actually the interior is a bit of a dilemma - I have in mind to change the rather dull grey to a mix of either red (tasteful I mean) and black or tan and black. Although a complete interior refurb here in Dubai with Italian leather, hand stitched etc is about £2k... I think its reasonable but the problem is when do I stop spending - certainly I realise these mods aren't adding value..

Hi Emtee - I did originally have the 25mm rear spacers and honestly it looked crazy - pushed the wheels out far too much. Personally I think the 15mm's bring the wheels nicely in line with the arches.

Regarding the back right corner, in fact I just had to check the heights cos I need to report back to Jeff at FD. Thankfully, I guess it was a trick of the light or I didn't straighten the pic correctly, as it happens the rear left is just under half a cm higher. If the info is worth anything - 11cm's from the top of the rim to the bottom of the arch - except the rear left at 11.4cm.

Cheers!

Thanks for the advice on the spacers Buster. I've had mine dropped by 13 turns all round, so 19.5 mm, but on the standard springs and it sits about the same as yours. I asked about the rear corner as mine initially sat up a little in one corner, but after running it in for a week or so it settled down. Like that tan interior by the way, though I'd personally go two-tine tan rather than black and tan.

Out of interest, what tyres do you have on, they look seriously chunky!?

Looks really good Buster, well done.
Not sure about tan in a silver car - what about two tone with grey and black?

Cheers

Doh! I was waiting for someone to comment.... Yep - not sure they're right. I previously had Pirelli on the 18" rims and the 19's came with some knackered yokohama's so had to change. Unfortunately and for whatever reason, there's a shortage of Pirellis and so the next option was Michelin Pilot Sport (we don't have Vred's here). The tyre guy put these on 275/35 on the rear and 245/35 on the front?? Yes low profile but they don't look as 'tight' as the Pirelli's..

Those tyre sizes will "protect" the wheel rim a bit more and probably add a bit of comfort, but the preferred sizes would be 235 front and 265 rear with a much tighter side wall and less tyre squirm... for serious performance driving anyway.

Can't wait to see her in the flesh ;)

To clarify to others on here, Buster's interior is a bone stock 4200 in gray. I saw another Grigio Nuvolari 4200 at the shop recently with a two tone Gray/Bordeaux (factory configuration) and it looked lovely. Alternatively, a full Bordeaux would be very elegant and will contrast nicely with the sophisticated Grigio Nuvolari paint.

To say Buster has been patient is a severe understatement...but by God has his "barn find" come a loooonnnng way! This is the stuff boy's dreams are made of...

Now my car has a look-a-like cousin in the UAE...I also have someone to tell off to the Fuzz when I get speeding tix :p

Seeing double? :)

From our meet today.

Notice the subtle difference in Grigio Nuvolari circa 2002 vs. 2006. Buster's is darker with more sparkle/crackle in the paint (almost looks like glitter).
