My daughter was at the front of the queue to get hers on day one at the hospital she works in. Now she has been informed that she won’t be getting her second jab in the near future. She works for The NHS and has extremely close interaction with known positive patients on a daily basis ?.

The infant and junior schools are starting to announce closure tomorrow in our tier 3 area. The teaching unions are forcing closure because unsafe to teach face to face.
Is it unsafe for me to go to work tomorrow too?!!
My daughter is in school tomorrow teaching. Year 11’s. She has had to prepare online teaching throughout the holidays for the other years.
The only days she has had off is Xmas day & her birthday, Boxing Day

Same for my daughter who teaches at a local senior school and has been preparing on line classes since the announcements - a full 8 Hours today, no moaning no complaints, just getting on with it.

Gets right up her nose when people say teachers have it easy and finish work at 3.30pm and have all the school holidays off.

Depends on if you’re likely to be stopping the office assistant from choking on a Pritt Stick, removing a crayon from the MD’s left nostril or stopping Tracey in accounts from throwing chairs at Malcolm because he stole her ruler.
It is at times :frusty5:

That is certainly what I say about teachers normally. They do have it easy with massive holidays and short working days . Seems as if they are having to work as hard as normal people now?

My Ms is a teacher she always does 12hr days irrespective of the current situation and works in the “holidays”. The amount of work outside of the times the children are there is colossal. There’s no wonder teaching has one of the highest leaving rates of any profession.

Things have changed drastically since we were at school. The amount of paperwork, planning and testing is unbelievable and the workload imposed by special needs pupils is something you wouldn’t believe. I’m constantly gob smacked.

I think they have always worked as hard a everyone else - this has just highlighted it.
They could do without their Union making mountains out of molehills all the time !

OMG, Boris the Clown just said today, "schools are safe and teachers are at no greater risk than any other member of the public".
Really, is that so, those little muck spreaders are the biggest spreaders on the planet.
Boris, Billy Smart Circus are recruiting when you are out of a job. (which hopefully is soon).

couldn’t agree more, glad my daughter has already had it as she comes into close contact with over +140 of them every day.

The Oxford jab approval should make a big difference to the speed of roll out of the vaccination programme, as long as the manufacturing capacity is there - not just for the medication but also for the ancillaries such as vials, needles and syringes etc. The key difference is the ease of storage; it’s just the same as for flu shots and GP practices have a wealth of experience of organising these local campaigns successfully over the years.
From a purely public health p.o.v. (i.e. greatest good for the greatest number of people), the decision to delay second jabs seems justified. I know, explicit trial evidence for this is lacking, but basic immunological principles established with other vaccines suggest that a late 2nd jab should work.
The great fear about just shielding the vulnerable and letting Covid rip through the rest of the population is that it is now so infectious that the eventually huge number of ill people will prevent the delivery of even the most basic of community services. There could well be too few workers left on their feet to stock supermarket shelves, run water treatment plants, keep power stations going, police the streets etc. This may sound alarmist, but you only have to look at the nearly exponential rate of rise of case numbers in London to see that it’s a real risk.
I don’t often say it, but I’m with the powers that be on this one.
