Well mass Exodus from Paris happening before the lockdown starting for those lucky to have second homes and lots do here.
I'm sure numbers will go up as a result.
Since Covid-19 next to nothing available for sale around here now compared to getting here October 18.
Trying to get a contractor to do my workshop proving hard with several saying can't do anything until next year with quotes a lot higher.
Ah well still waiting for my £££ from the UK but wanting to get a contractor booked in.

2.5%!
The line is barely off the horizontal axis.

The fear mongering line is meanwhile off the charts with this virus.
And people like you started the fear and scaremongering. Why don’t you just stay off this thread? Your posts achieve nothing but offense. Or is that your sole purpose in life?

People like me reacted and prepared for the worse. Prudent preparation.
Unfortunately many governments didn’t.

Why don’t you stay off or block me? I’m not forcing you to read my posts.

There is a pattern forming here.

Wattie says “only 3% die, so lock down old people and get on with it.” and “I’d rather die than not gamble in a casino”

Four or five people unsuccessfully attempt to reason with him as to why lockdown is both cruel and impractical and that he should gamble more.

Rinse and repeat.

I don’t think anyone wants the forum to be an echo chamber with one set of views, so discussion is a good thing. But if the echo is of the same argument, or posts, over and over it isn’t good.

If there was even the remotest chance of anyone persuading anyone else it would be worth it. But there isn’t, so let’s just talk about cars.

Diseases mutate. And they mutate to their betterment. (The ones that don’t disappear).
So if they’re eventually left unchecked they will work their way to being deadly to the young as well as old.
That’s how diseases work.
Even though numbers are dropping in England I heard today about someone who I knew through friends of friends who died this morning. He was 30.
No existing (as far as friends knew) of any health issues.
He felt ill last Friday. Died this morning.

Both his parents had been vaccinated. Apparently he saw them this time last week.

Based on that. Get the jab. Err on the side of caution.

I had a 34 year old slightly overweight neighbour who used to work for me cash in hand ,after a days work (kitchen fitting) in 2009 I dropped him off after work, apparently he had complained to his wife he was knackered he had a headache and went to bed early evening. when she finally went up around 10pm he had immersed himself with the quilt , she gave it hard tug (the quilt) and unfortunately he rolled out of bed and fell onto the floor ...................after several minutes she chastised him and told him to stop mucking around , having to get out of bed she gave him a thump for frightening her , only to find on further inspection the poor bugger had croaked it. After lengthy investigations the autopsy report put it down to adult cot syndrome one never knows whats round the corner but **** happens . We cant wrap the whole nation up in cotton wool , we just have to learn to live around it ..........the fittest will survive ............its nature at its best

You are attaching too much intelligence to viruses. They don't mutate in their best interests. Viruses mutate. Some mutate so they are more successful than the previous mutation, some mutate and are less successful. Mutations usually occur if the virus is alive, and viruses usually propagate if they can find a host that isn't immune.

However he is correct that high levels of mortality are not a great survival trait. It limits the ability of the virus to reproduce.

All mutations are completely random. The environment 'decides' if that mutation confers a benefit or not, and therefore an increase in survival.

So stop people using this thread to repeat the same opinions over and over that clearly are causing upset and offense to many. These opinions serve no purpose for anybody other than the people posting them. People like Markmas and others feel compelled to state the alternative view only because these opinions are posted here. If they were not, such people would not feel compelled to do so. It’s an easy fix for the moderators and this can go back to being a less controversial and antagonistic thread.

Well said Zep.

With that in mind I wonder, what are the odds are of catching Covid in a car?
The virus is said to prefer lower temperatures, so should we keep the heater on and aircon off?
What about the windows and sunroof; if we close them we keep the temperature up, but we then lose the fresh air that helps to disperse droplets, so what to do?
Should we carry passengers on the roof rack, top box, or in the boot?
Is antifreeze as good as bleach?
Is it true that ozone created by a spark plug neutralises the virus?
Is it true that passengers in EV's are at greater risk?
Is it true that diesel particulates are heavier than Covid?
Should I fit a carbon filter to the recirc line, or can I get away with N95 over the vents?
I've heard that you can outrun the virus, but are Maseratis fast enough?

So many questions, so few answers, and I'm worried.......

Dr John Cambell (I think his surname is) did an easy to understand Youtube talk about mutations - I checked his comments out with a doctor friend and she confirmed them - worth a listen imho

I’ll try and help. Answers are in order:

  1. Don’t know
  2. Don’t know
  3. Don’t know
  4. Don’t know
  5. Don’t know
  6. Don’t know
  7. Don’t know
  8. Don’t know
  9. Don’t know
  10. I think I read on a Facebook post that the virus only likes BMWs and as these are limited to 155 mph, but really, I don’t know.
I hope that helps.

So we’re not allowed to have an alternative view....to that which some have deemed is the correct one?

I’m offended by you. Constantly. I often wonder if you would ever post anything if it wasn’t to argue with me. You never post much else unless it’s a reply to me

Mark Mas (whose post and views I respect) made up his last umpteen responses with “suppositions” that weren’t justified or validated with what was previously said.

PhilH had a similar experience.

And there you have the answer in your own post. I only ever really post here in response to your posts, to provide an alternative view. I don’t initiate these “discussions”, you do. I don’t say my view is correct, I say it is an alternative to yours. I have nothing against you personally, but I do feel very uncomfortable with the tone and content of a lot of your posts on this and a few other threads. And so I keep asking myself why you continue to make them? For what purpose? Have they solved or resolved anything? Are they to bait a response because you want the argument? I genuinely don’t get it after more than a year of this

Well yes. He's a pro. Most people don't really get mutations (cf The X-Men), I guess partly because we're really not good at the concept of probability and randomness (do you know that random play lists aren't? They had to be made less random to convince people they were random) and trying to explain what 'survival of the fittest' means on a forum is non-trivial.

(full disclosure that my degree was in Biotechnology / Biochemistry from Imperial, so it is something I understand even if I can't explain it ;) )

The ability to ignore members is great. Is there any chance we can have an 'ignore thread' option? It's like picking a scab.....
