We are led to believe it is all clear now, but yes no toilets and other facilities at either Manston or on the M20 under Operation Brock.

Regardless of why there was a blockade on lorry drivers and other travellers leaving the UK, the UK response both by central government and Kent County Council was something we should be ashamed of.

There were some 4,000 vehicles queued and 10,000 tests carried out that required a total of 1,100 armed forces personnel plus French firefighters and Polish armed forces. Did this operation really necessitate 1 member of staff for every 10 people affected? Or would some portaloos been of greater assistance?

Dover was in gridlock because of this.

Hopefully these scenes will not be repeated come 1 January.

I can count 25 porta loos to the right of the old runway (small sqaure white roof).

Not many, but on a par with French motorways with their minging Turkish toilets... and probably the same ratio per person as le Man's.

This picture is shocking , I’m not seeeing much in the way of facilities for the drivers in it

View attachment 79596

People need food and water and apart from a few Indian Sikhs providing 800 meals that is all I saw.
Some drivers were stuck for 5-6 days. Dreadful organisation by Kent county Council and Government.
Bear in mind they had a test weekend there a couple of months ago to make sure everything worked efficiently post Brexit.
Made us look like a Third World Country.

24 out of 10,000 tests, where the whole population in that 'area' is tested, is equivalent to 240 per 100,000 head of population which warrants tier 4.

For comparison, Swale which is about 20 miles from Manston airport, was approaching 900 per 100,000 when we were placed into tier 4. Suffice to say, 100,000 tests were not carried out in the borough and those are estimated figures of the incidence.

Other areas such as on the Essex-Greater London border now exceed that figure.

Vaccination minimises the affect of the disease if you catch it, an effective test and trace system identifies who has it and allows you to take steps to limit the spread. I don't believe we have the latter as a world-beating system.

What's concerning is the Brits who have gone skiing in Switzerland and left their quarantine hotels being reported in the news over here.

I’ve seen that. They should shoot the lot of them. Or at least huge fines then deportation and never allowed back into Europe again.

Sorry I was typing something then decided I couldn't be bothered but it haunts you

I read they'd found 24 with CV19 so put them up in a hotel so not really the risk the French were worried about

Also nothing like the ONS estimates

IMHO UKG should stop all travel, including travel across the UK. 3 weeks ago we had an infection rate equivalent to 34/100,000, one of the lowest in the UK. Not surprising given that there are less than 6500 people who live in a 50+square mile area, one of the remotest parts of Cumbria. We are currently Tier 2 and some would argue we should have been Tier 1. However, yesterday, in just my locality alone the rates were up at 867/100,000(!) equivalent, according to the Govt website. Why I ask? Well we have had a deluge of visitors to the area over the Christmas period, starting about 2 weeks ago. Not an Airbnb or holiday cottage available anywhere. All fully booked out.
I can only assume that the rapid infection rate has been 'brought in' from elsewhere around the UK. If travel had been restricted beforehand then perhaps this huge growth in infections could have been avoided or at least significantly reduced? Sadly being a predominantly elderly population up here, I suspect that this is now going to cost a lot more lives. Very frustrating...
