2 confirmed positive. How many of the 500 who used the subway were too....

I don’t know. Not more than 500, probably. When I was on a train last week someone coughed. Could have been me, I can’t really remember. That’s how non-triggered my terror receptors were. Life continued.

Seems a bit odd to me to go to all the trouble of quarantining folk for weeks only to let them go when they’re potentially infected.
Pointless actually

Yesterday and the day before I had mild cold / flu-like symptoms. And now I don’t. A good night’s sleep seemed to help.

I could conclude that I have a rampant virus that can cause severe death to people who are ill or have compromised immune symptoms (is that true, or did I just make it up? I have no idea) and / or respiratory problems. Or I could have just needed a decent kip. Regardless, I decided not to panic. It’s not healthy.

Would you have had the same thoughts if you lived in Wuhan?
I thought not!

It’s an evil conspiracy to bring the world to its knees so the lizard people can take over. Or the illuminati. Or perhaps the Bilderberg Group. My money's on the lizards, though.

I think there’s a difference between concerned, worried, prepared and panic.

Absolutely.

Concerned worried and prepared is having a mask, swimming goggles if that is something that makes you personally feel more comfortable. Maybe 500 tins of beans.

Panic is sharing extreme articles, worst case doom implying infection scenarios. Suggesting governments are conspiring to play down these worst case doom scenarios. Suggesting it is a Bio-weapon or man made virus, that it is in some way related to HIV.

Someone somewhere might be badly affected by these ‘panic’ comments and events in the Ukraine demonstrate the potential effects. We must be mindful of the impact what we say has on others we might not even know.

I know which one I want to be. I have some beans (but I didn’t get them especially) and I have read the thing about masks with interest.

As for the folks in Wuhan, they probably aren’t panicking either. They have a problem, they might have to stay isolated or are getting treatment, if they act accordingly they might not get the virus and if they do they currently appear to have a 97% chance of not dying.

Good odds. I always assumed I have a 100% chance of dying. I should buy more beans. Hmmm... and a gas mask.

That’s your opinion Zep.
Panic is not sharing extreme articles. They’re only extreme because you don’t believe them.
Im of the opinion they have more credibility and substance than you do.
I’m exercising my right to share information and people can choose to read it or not as an alternative news source.
No-one has disproved anything I’ve posted.
It’s just been denied and there’s a massive difference.

Close to 800,000,000 locked down now because of 2000 deaths. Personally I think that’s bs.

Quite interesting, how we’re all different.
Some would sit up on deck listening to the brass band playing.
Others would join the queue and take their place for a life boat.

Panic is not sharing extreme articles. They’re only extreme because

....they're completely (at least the ones I read) un-verified.

They typically state opinion as fact, rely on a very small set of (of themselves) un-verified secondary sources and discount any counter points resorting to simple restatement of the original claim.

Oh, and they tend to use a wide selection of logical fallacies and demonstrations of bias when making their arguments. The halo effect being particularly prominent.

While it may be early doors in terms of cases outside China, we're still not seeing either a massive infection rate, nor a massive increase in the death rate. While I can quite happily accept that China's government is lying, the very concept of all the other governments and the WHO being willing (let alone capable) of maintaining a consistent false story in what we cheerfully refer to as the free world is simply, to me, not plausible. Occam's razor.
