Anyone Seen This Before?

After fitting the cruise my spyder ran perfectly. Parked her up for a week in a dry garage and she started first time. Ran sweetly and I noticed the ECL aglowing. Did a battery reset and let her tick over for 15 mins. All Ok again. Ran as sweet as a nut. However, the oil pressure gauge indicates 5 bar even when ticking over, hot. When switched off the gauge drops to zero but when you turn the ignition back on, it indicated 3 bar with the engine not running. Did another battery reset and this time it indicated 2.5 bar with the engine not running. Not worried, more intrigued at the moment but does anyone have any ideas?

Yeah i 'd tend to agree with Phil , its quite a common fault , £30 fix i think if you change it yourself , think Matty did it on the GS

Thanks Phil and Loz. If it was giving no pressure I can see that, but if it is the sender, it must be trapping pressure somehow. However, when I start up the pressure increases to 5 bar and when I shut down it drops to 2.5 bar, so that indicates that pressure is getting into, and out, of the sender.

Its the electrical side of the sender thats sending false intermittent signals

Thanks for that Loz, that does make more sense. Now, does anyone have any idea where the 4200 oil pressure sender is in the eurospares catalogue?

Best of luck replacing the sender yourself! It's a pig to get at. The sender is £73 from Eurospares.

Posts above are correct in that the sender is a known weakness, but the symptoms are more normally an erattic reading (needle spiking) rather than constant but incorrect readings. You should also investigate a blocked pressure release spring. Believe me I know...

Don't leave it to long Benny, and if it gets tappety, get it looked at straight away.

Ok Matt, will do. It's running like a sewing machine at the moment so any tappet noise will stand out like a Bulldogs bits. Wont be using it much before the northern meet. Will see you then.

Would love to meet up with you all in Wallasey, and had hoped to do so, but sadly I've had to cry off as Mrs Tee and I are off to Crufts.
