Anyone know of somewhere that can remap the ZF box?

As the title says, getting frustrated with my ghibli changing up all the dam time!!! Luxury in my book doesn’t mean slow or frugal. Anyone had any experiences of trying to get the ZF box remapped?? Lots about BMWs but nothing specific on Maserati. Have reached out to a company called Turners to see if they can help.

As you have said very common to remap the ZF in BMWs so can't see why not possible in the Maserati.

I’m sure Maserati will have found some way to make it difficult just getting the car strapped down onto the rolling road last week was an epic undertaking!!

This was looked at before by the artist formerly known as Spoon. The ZF 6 speed is apparently not mappable. If it has the 8 speed you probably can.

No paddles, but even in manual and sport the dam thing tries to change up without command. It is an 8 speed so will see what might be the art of the possible. I had it on a rolling road and there’s plenty of power and boost being developed, it just seems to be limited by the box. Will see if a box remap does the trick, if not then the tricky decision of what to replace it with is on!!
Currently in the running are a QP6 GTS or a GT MC Shift. The QP gives me the luxury and practicality but the GT is soo pretty!!

Alternatively I need to get the lotus back up and running and drive it more often… then I may not care so much.

It sounds like you need a Stradale.....

Ira's Z4 does very similar, stick it in 'Manual' and it reverts to auto changing after a while but at least that has very small paddles. This is not like the ZF gearbox in the GT Sport Auto Shift where, as Phil says and what I do, stick it in manual and use the paddles.

So to the OP, I haven't any experience of the Ghibli, so bear with me, if it has a manual mode how do you change gear?

Without paddles, once you select manual you push forward or pull back on the stick to change up or down (sequential style). Wouldn’t surprise me if there is a similar setup to the z4. Research this weekend pulls up lots of bmw maps that get rid of the auto change in manual, changes torque limits in certain gears (mainly 3rd and 6th) and shift change points depending upon required style of driving.
Maybe I’m asking too much of the ghibli? Shame if that’s the case as it’s the one car the Mrs likes to drive lol.

Hop you don't end up having to sell it.
But if you do and you need 4 seats and a bit of comfort/refinement along with a spirited driving experience, you need to know (apologies if you already do) that 12 year old QPs like mine were criticised in some quarters for being too ready to change down in auto mode. I love it though, because when I'm feeling inclined to change down and go at the drop of a hat its quite likely to do it for me, without the effort of reaching out for the paddle. But when I want to just glide around, it does, and the engine is so balanced that if it should change down, there is barely any perceptible increase in harshness, just more music from under the bonnet.
Oh, you mentioned the boot and may be aware that the 12 year old QP boot is small. True. But my wife and I went away with a week's worth of luggage with no difficulty at all. Everything in the boot. So I would say "small boot" is a relative term.
Seems like wins all round to me :)

Yes, from memory you can change gear with the stick as you say. it also has a sport mode but it just hangs on to a lower gear for longer and if you're crusing just wastes fuel.

As far as I know, you can’t remap the gearbox itself, ZF agents can update the software in the box through its own port, but ultimately it’s the ECU that commands the transmission.

So you would need to hack the ecu to stop the automatic upshifts as that's where the gear change decisions come from?

No, I don’t think you do, what I mean is I understand that it’s the Main ECU and not the gearbox that needs mapped. The gearbox really doesn’t really care if you redline the engine all day.

I think we are cross purposes here. I don’t think the gearbox mechatronics actually has firmware as such. When people talk about mapping the gearbox, they are talking about changing the settings in the gearbox ECU (TCU if you will) which will have been coded by the vehicle manufacturer, based on their needs and limitations set by ZF.
