I had a look at one of these in the Genesis shop in Battersea Power Station. Incredible value for money when compared to the opposition. Luxurious inside, and all the latest tech.
I looked at them in detail at Carfest North last summer. Very nice interior, quite decent exterior; £60k for a little Macan sized GV60, similar price to a Macan or a Grecale. I’d guess over 3 years and 35k miles that the Porsche or the Maserati will have better residuals, better ownership prospect (smiles per mile). Few on here would buy the Genesis, @Ewan I bet you’ve not bought one yet ;)

Hyundai are one of those brands that have upped their game massively where many are going in the opposite direction.
I've had a Hyundai i40 Tourer as a daily driver for 5 years, and it's been brilliant. OK so it doesn't have the cachet of premium brands but it is stylish, does everything well, and has been very reliable. I'm lucky enough to have Maserati horses in the stable but even if I didn't I would consider Hyundai if buying again, and the Genesis shows that the company is not content to sit on its @rse - unlike some of the brands out there that just regurgitate expensive pap.

It is a saloon really just looks a little coupe/hatchy. Not sure if folder rear seats were an option in the XJ. I don't think so as lots of wiring and stuff behind the seats I think.
Just shows the tricks memory can play. For certain I had a ride in the XJ-L pretty soon after release. My brain clearly photoshopped a tailgate into the images. Only real tailgate on luxury cruiser I am confident about is Saab 9000 demo car borrowed back in 1996. Did any survive to be a daily? Expect very few left which could perform daily duties.

I’d say any one of us on here has to admit to being a badge snob if we take it as most use the term. None of us would deny that the likes of Skoda, Kia, Hyundai etc have seriously upped their game and now build high quality cars. How many of us would buy one for our own car? Some may get one for the other half but surely not for our weekend toy. I don’t mind admitting I’m a badge snob (people like to call it that) as I love Maserati, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Pagani etc. It’s the styling and load of other factors too. I have never liked Bentley, Audi or BMW though which are known as premium brands so maybe I’m not? I suppose it’s easier to decide on what we wouldn’t buy, rather than what we have on our driveways.

I must be the exception, what I do when I look for a car is choose the body styles I want, enter a budget 10% over what I have to spend then work down from highest price first until I find a bargain

I couldn't care less what's on the grille if it ticks the boxes , if I were in the market for a 75k SUV I'd be straight down to the genesis showroom but I accept looking rich is important to a lot of people even if the reality is £399 a month

Not totally the exception. I don't care for badges either. Short sighted IMHO. We have an MG ZS and I had a Mitsubishi Outlander before. I have a Hyundai Coupe too and I bought one new in 2002.

I just choose what suits my needs and the badge is irrelevant. I have never bought into that keeping up with the Jones's BS or worried about what everyone else has or thinks.

Test drove an S6 Avant and it rode very well. Better suspension and damping than E43. Adaptive options gave wider spread whereas not sure I can tell the difference on E43 so much. Comfort is more like sport to me!

The main thing I didn't like about the S6 was the gearbox wasn't the smoothest but is a dual clutch jobbie so to be expected I guess. Odd as STronic in the S6 but ZF Auto in the RS6 to deal with the torque but drove RS6 and was too much for my needs.

Need an S6 with the ZF Auto

I drive GMC products (and just got rid of a RAM that tried to kill me). My first car cost 400 USD and I have literally owned a hundred-dollar pickup truck with a green vinyl sofa strapped to the frame where the bed was supposed to be. And I still wouldn't buy one of these ugly new BMWs or a Hyundai that just ripped off another maker's styling...or an Audi, or a VW, and probably not another Porsche or MB...not sure what that makes me.

I also wouldn't buy a "luxury" marque of another manufacturer. See: Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, Cadillac, Lincoln...just don't get the premium.

One caveat: talking explicitly about buying new.

The ride in your AMG must be horrific if you think an S6 is better.
On perfect roads it's perfect

Not too bad on the motorway but A and B roads or lanes it isn't exactly soothing. Doesn't help coming from the XJL I guess.

The Alfa GT feels like a limo.

What about.... I bought a black one to replace the e55 I advertised here.

I couldn't find one this colour or I'd have had that.
No real loss of space over the 211, silly quick and rides well. Less wafty than the e55 so a better drive. I do miss the old one mind.
