Aircon oddness (while watching Top Gear)

Aircon has started being a bit odd this evening.

Took it for a quick run up the road, no issues. Nipped in the shop, started up again, and suddenly no control over aircon at all. Display says fan on manual, direction on manual, but the controls do nothing. E on the display. Fan doing nothing although the display shows a low speed.

Got it home. Turned off. Turned on, waited and all started doing it's thing. Started the engine, and suddenly it's back to being rubbish.

Any thoughts? In fact, I suddenly wonder if starting it up is causing the screw up, maybe the battery is still stuffed?

It could be a number of things but you can try the reset procedure. With the ignition off, turn the left hand rotary knob to full cold, the middle and right hand rotary knobs to Auto, press the recirc and econ buttons together and whilst still pressed, turn the ignition on. Keep them pressed until the green lights start flashing then release. When the lights stop flashing the reset is complete. I think that's how you do it.

I had that on my 4200 and from memory it was a relay or a fuse - it had to go in the garage soon thereafter for other stuff so they fixed it then. From memory the folding mirrors/seat memory and external temperature sensor were playing up to. Easy fix, apparently, if you know what you are doing.

Thanks Benny. I'll give that a try tomorrow if it's still being difficult. I'll plug it into the CTEK tomorrow night as well, if no better.

Bob, thanks. Odd that it works fine with the engine off, though, if it's a fuse or similar, but I can check them at the weekend if nothing better.

Typical character. Was fine this morning. It may simply have been that I didn't wait until the aircon had started before I fired up the engine, but we shall see.

**** still got a wet driver's foot well and all sorts of crud over teh inside of the windscreen though
