Bit of a worrying trend at the moment!

Loz, have you had any offers of victim support yet?? I've had three letters from them but nothing from the rozzers.

Did I read previously that you had a security camera?

Yeah but in my old house down in Worthing YHTM , the house here is alarmed , thought it was a quieter sleepier place were at now , well it is , so will probably get round to that soon , but it really makes no difference having camera's if you cant get a bobby round to do something about it , ive been prioritised you see , my theft is far less important that the 17 year old car passenger that is pocessing weed and getting a caution ( as we see all to often on road wars ) or the 75 year old that cant afford to pay her council tax and is getting arrested and escorted to prison by 3 officers ,

Re the victim support hehehe yeah its been diluted up here now , you have to search it out if you need it , gone are the days where they automatically contact you after you have reported a crime well at least here anyway , just been through that recently with Kaz's daughters hit and run accident

On a positive note xmas on the way , next year will be better than this , and we'll be out of recession by next summer and hopefully i'll be in a GT life aint all bad , its all about how you cope with the downs that makes the ups so good

My glass is half full..........God .if it was half empty i'd be quite depressed

regards loz

That's a gutting mate. At least the window wasn't smashed, as I think that would annoy me more (sorry if it's been said already).
I had someone egg my car last night whilst I was at the gym and that made my blood boil as it is.

Believe me Dem, i prediicted this recession 18 months before it happened , it was blatantly obvious and so reminiscant of the 89/90 one but worse, give 3-4 months of next year with the worst of the cuts /job losses known , and the light at the end of the tunnel will start to sparkle , by july august confidence will be reborn, its the ones that have beenstruggling and hanging on for the last year that will probably fall along the wayside, its the fittest and keenest that will survive it , oh and the bankers will come out smiling

Well your other post was suitably uplifting loz so I'm sticking with that one !! ;o)

Our house isn't alarmed or cctv'd, we live in pretty much the lowest crime rate area in the country I think, but a few months ago we had a mountain bike go missing from our shed, found out the day after the big building project on the pub next door finished - down came the scaffolding that had overlooked our garden for 3 months, off went a dozen or subby labourers and strangely Mrs P's bike was nowhere to be seen! Plod hardly batted an eyelid, an unsolveable crime it seems!!

On the recession (I had to, didn't I??) I'm largely with you, as ever it is the effect on Joe Average that will take the longest to improve. The banks are genearlly all making a profit again, they can amortise their losses of several years but your small business owner can't because ha ha! The banks have cut off the funding!

And it's all very well binning a load of public sector jobs, I would too as I can't stand house-of-cards economics like Gordon's, but this notion that more jobs will be created in the private sector is largely irrelevant. I have yet to meet a public sector worker that I would employ who hasn't been virtually institutionalised, the re-training required for the real world is beyond belief, let alone the reality-check on salaries and benefits!!! I'd rather take on an apprentice (as we have done!).

With higher unemployment coming and no worthwhile mortgages available for anyone with less than £30k in savings, the housing market is pretty hobbled too.

But, like you, I keep my glass at least half-full!!!!

Paco,
I agree with you and loz I run an architects business and we only do domestic extensions, it has been getting busy lately and people are starting to make decisions again, almost getting bored of not knowing what to do and getting on with it. I think I will also benefit from people not moving and extending instead.
As for council employees I will not comment as I don't want to offend anyone!

I think everyones opinion depends on what business your are in, moving house and buying cars are the first things to go on hold when money is tight as they are big money items and usually involve finance.

I'm in IT telecoms, and sales up significantly year on year - i think a lot of it is pent up demand rather than growth per se, but either way it all starts with people deciding they are in a safe position to buy... I'm a definite optimist when it comes to the economy looking ahead, and an absolute pessimist when it comes to the ability of the media to report on in accurately and sensibly.... such a shame that both affect the other! This is my why I now avoid "news" at all costs - constant news is constant noise - its designed to sell me or shock me - but not teach me. I'd rather go read a book by someone clever, once all the evidence is in. If we all get through this with our tales up it'll be no thanks to the Daily ******** or the News at Tosh thats for sure! we'll see, in the mean time i reckon we should drive round in our maseratis all day while petrols still "cheap" :)

Loz, Andrew, take heart, for every down there's an up. If you can't move you feather your nest. Been that way since the 50's and it's no different this time around. Lot's of extensions, kitchens and re-decoration on the way.

Loz,

Sorry to hear your news. I have to agree with everything you say. I guess its why I started looking around and left the Uk to live in Aus. its so different out here. I have 4 garages at home and if I left all the doors open all day, (it happend once accidently Automated remotes) everything is still there when you come home. Doors have very little security here. Most people don't bother with a house alarm. They often walk away from their cars parked in the street windows down. Nothing happens. I still lock everything up and alarm it, I guess its in my blood!!!...automatic really...

As you say glass is half full not empty...its the only answer you can adopt..and you are still healthy and able to drive your cars...!!!

Sounds Idyllic Ozzie, and something i hanker for ,I would migrate to warmer climes tomorrow if the missus was game for it , but she's too wrapped up in her career at present and enjoys her work , maybe in a few years if i can get her to retire early , even the sleepy hollows in UK are now under threat, and targetted by the urban oiks , and the insurance companies have changed the rules and wont pay if doors aren't securely locked and alarmed........ ridiculous

living in nicer climates is an option for us but her being a lawyer she can only go to countries that have english law in place like cyprus or certain parts of usa and australia so she tells me....would love a change where you can trust the neighbour and kids on your road
