Advice for a northern member

Hi All

I've been lurking on here for a little while, you all seem nice enough so I thought I'd make myself known. I have a 2008 gt that I've owned for several years and have always had serviced at jct600. No complaints there but it's now reaching an age where things are starting to give me problems. There is a leak from the steering rack, probably just a seal but maserati won't repair it and I was quoted £2500 to replace the whole unit.
I have spoken to a garage locally and they offered to take it off and send it away (not sure where) to try and repair it. It seems to make sense to replace the suspension bushes and springs (corroded from year round driving) while the front end is in bits.

Does anyone have experience of steering rack issues and can you recommend a good independent in the north east, Google doesn't throw up many names, we seem to be sadly under represented up here! Who is the go to guy?

Many thanks

My first thoughts having read the title of the thread were "move to the south".

As for the rest. I haven't a clue.

Ed at Christian Lewis know a firm that does this, call him, he will probably tell you.

If its a known fault, chances are a solution is on here of within the sponsors network.

One I just found out about is the GT's AC pump (£2K off the main dealer) is off a Renault Megane (not sure which model) and all you have to do is change the pulley/clutch pack over which is easy to do.

Hi
I am in Middlesbrough and have my QP serviced and tested and any other bits and bobs done by an outfit nearby. This has been the case now for 3 or 4 years
In fact the car is with them now for an MOT (passed) and service - ongoing should be done today.
Anyway I can thoroughly recommend them.
They deal in run of the mill cars and exotica.
They are called Falcon Engineering and are based on a small industrial estate called Skippers Lane.
They do not have a website as such but they do have an active Facebook page where you can see some of the stuff they have worked on in the past. Some of it very very nice and rare.
The proprietor is called Steve and he is always very fair - mention my name.
Good luck

Now that would open up a whole can of worms of difffering opinion with no clear winners. Good technique for increasing forum post volume.

Hi All

.... you all seem nice enough

Really? How odd? I think we all look completely bonkers, and not always in a good way. I see the forum owner has just, as an example, threatened another user with a chainsaw <shrug>

That's why I joined this forum - for the sage advice
But I've a feeling the house prices might wipe out the savings of my budget fixes!

Thanks conaero I'll check them out.

The steering rack is a serviceable item, if you can get it off, any reputable steering rack renovator can recondition them for quite a lot less that £2500.

Try Kiley - Clinton Engineering Ltd.
