Just wondering whether anyone has used this?

Given my recent experiences I'm thinking of trying it. It seems to get very good write-ups.

Miles, I would certainly ask off our indie garage specialists about any addictive....the only way I'd believe any of the hype is when backed up by some sort of indie reports and recommendations from recognised authorities.

Yes agree P and of course will do, but just wanting to see whether anyone has used it or has experience of it in the meantime?

I know it's used widely in motorsport, both 4 wheel and 2 wheel and is rated highly. It doesn't alter the action of the oil as such, but instead under heat bonds to the wear surfaces to create a 'slip'.

There you go Dan, in like Flynn! I guess that's why you are so successful in business!

I notice reading through the Stradale brochure..............

"Many of the improvements to the V8 engine are due to the reduced friction, thanks to the redesigned oil sump fluid dynamics and DLC coating (Diamonf-Like Coating) on the tappets and camshaft lobes............"

I wonder whether this is a coating that, in essence, is doing the same as the Activ8 oil additive I mentioned above?

Hmmm.........?

Hmm, I’m always dubious about oil additives.
If such a technology is effective, surely the major oil companies (Shell, Castrol, Mobil, etc..) would have included it in their top spec oils.

Completely agree and I too am approaching this from a position of skepticism, but interested to look into it nonetheless. I have a couple of friends who run it in their bikes (as well as their cars) and they swear by it and it was their mentioning it to me that made me look further.

Here are some test results I came across....

Impressive. Reduced friction = greater power = me wanting some of that!

Getting a second opinion before use is certainly a good idea. Many years ago I put some Slick 50 in my Lancer turbo and a little while later I was sitting at the traffic lights, after some spirited driving, when the traffic behind disappeared in a blanket of thick white smoke. It became obvious that the turbo was knackered. The repair company said that the turbo had gotten so hot it had melted the PTFE in suspension and had blocked the oilways to the bearings. I didn't use that stuff again! However, subject to approval, I would be interested in using this Activ8 as it seems to give a useful amount of reduced internal friction, which is always good.

Hmmm, had a look round the web on this subject and there seems to be a lot against.

This one on MCN was interesting as are comments here and here.

Me, I'd leave them alone

Cheers

Thanks GDL. The detailed post about half way down was particularly interesting to read. Think that's made my mind up and yes, best left alone. Cheers, Miles.

Thanks Miles. Read and inwardly digested, I will stick with the friction I have got!

Sorry, my habit of making the links shorter than leaving the full text in

I have a mate who has used it in every car he's had ( all top end cars ) in the last 7/8 years Miles , also uses it in his 2 racing cars , he absolutely swears by it , told me about a few years back , its quite expensive but he assures me it well worth it , great for engines and gearboxes ( manual change ) that is but obviously includes the cc box being an automated manual box , im sure i mentioned this on the old MF site about 4 years ago when he first told me about it , general consensus then, when i was a Masserati greenhorn............. was that the engines and gearboxes were so expensive to replace that t was advised to play safe and not use it , Now they are in affordable replacement price i thin k it would be well worth a try at my next service. i would have no qualms about using now , if you do let me know how you get on

Might be worth giving Opie oils a quick ring and check regarding product feedback from the trade so to speak

Just come across this thread.
Read many things about oil friction reducers, like Active8 and Slick 50. Both good, but seen engines used with them, and once stripped down the only real place, the additives were, was in the oi filter! So if you want to coat your oil filter with these additives, go ahead!

And.

We used to use "Extralube ZXI" in the Alfa 155 touring car engines and gearboxes,It worked fine,I think you can buy it in Halfrauds nowadays,Its expensive though...

I'm going to try some in my old 3200GT Getrag manual gearbox, as its difficult to use when the oils cold
