Hi Craig,

The independent is a Maserati/Ferrari specialist so should have been able connect to the car without issue, they have all the specialist kit (SD2/3 if that is the correct term)

Anyway I have it booked in for the main agent on Thursday who should get to the bottom of it.

Regard Greg

If the sd2 cannot connect to any diagnostics at all on your car, the problem could be unrelated to the abs.

If only the abs is not responding, then it's either the abs ecu that has gone or its a blown fuse.

The diagnostics lines of several ecus are interconnected on the same bus and if one starts misbehaving it's possible that the entire bus goes unresponsive.

I have seem this happen with an aftermarket radio installed in an old audi

Finally got off my backside and checked each wheel sensor.

NSF 600 K ohms, all others 450 K ohms.

They are the blue wire sensors if this makes a difference, are these resistances of 450 K about right? And the high one would be at fault?

Yes I understand but not all independent Maserati/Ferrari specialists use the Ferrari/Mas. specific tools. For example, the Aston Martin dealer who employs a Ferrari/Mas. specific mechanic uses the Leonardo system. The expense of the Ferrari/Mas. specific tool, and then the subscription on top of that is too much for anyone but a Ferrari/Maserati dealership to use. This is why I was suggesting this.

Had the GS checked a main dealer Paul Grey, Birmingham, today, connected no problem and confirmed the NSF sensor is at fault.
£120 for the diagnostic but at least I know for sure now, managed a test ride in a new Gran Cabrio, great car but must say I still prefer how raw/quicker the GS feels.

So just need to source a new bearing sensor at reasonable cost, they quoted £420 + vat, including a small discount.

But all in all not too bad.

Enquired about annual service cost, was quoted at £550 including vat, so compares well with an Indy, also includes a new maser courtesy car for the day so a pretty good deal really.

I would welcome some suggestions on a new wheel bearing at a better price, I've checked eurospares which is a fair bit cheaper and David Askew is also on the case for a low mile used one.

Cheers Greg

Apparently not, checked with independent as well as main dealer, plus the parts suppliers.

I also had a good search on the forum and found it was a similar issue having to replace the bearing with sensor on a few other 4200 / quattroport.

Crazy really for the sake of a 30 quid sensor!

Had the same thing happen on my 4200 a few months back. Unfortunately you can't separate the sensor. I got a low mileage pair off eBay and replaced it myself. Pretty easy because you don't have to faff about with driveshafts.

Just received new bearing and plugged in quickly to test, abs light still showing fault!

Does it need to cover a few miles to recognise fault is clear, I had left the battery off hoping it would clear any faults.

I don't really want it back at the dealers for diagnostic for another 120 quid!

Your help will be much appreciated.

Thanks, I am hoping that is the case, I've got to fit the new one anyway.

Will see what happens when I go for a run.
