Abs Asr Problems

Good Afternoon Boys and Girls ,

I have not used 3200 over winter months and only got some use during the last week or 2 , ocassionally over the last few years the Abs and no asr light would come on briefly then go out , but over the last week or so light has been on continuously , I have checked fault codes and they are as follows : 44 Broken rear sensor LH and 28 defect discharge valve magnet front RH . I am not totally familiar with these codes but reckon that there is a sensor down and probably a problem with a sticking valve on the unit - has anyone had similar issues or educated in these matters ?

all contributions greatly recieved ,

tia Steve

I had the same a while back and the issue was the teeth on the wheel there was a lot of corrosion which degraded the signal to the ECU. I eventually replaced both rear toothed wheels and I havent had problems since. The only thing I would say I ignored this error for a while and eventually had to replace the ABS ECU which is not cheap!! Be warned.....

I hear this alot and 9 times out of 10 it's the rear wheel abs pickup or ring as described above. If you end up takeling the job on your own would you be so kind as to do a how to guide with pics, it's a very common fault and we don't have this one in the technical fixes section.

Thanks for the feedback guys - I get the same feeling as you - re rear sensor and possible crustation on ring and unit (mine is a low mileage car and does not get used as much as I would like !) However , did not know if anyone maybe Bill could throw any light on the magnet code ,

cheers

Hi Steve,
If the car was ok until you put her away for the winter, then there's a a good chance is it damp or water ingress.
Try cleaning and drying out the sensor and connectors.
I take it you've already tried a reset?

Ken

Mate consider this:

Tried BBA reman, ac tronics Netherlands, and Xemodex which is the company I represent in the uk for the throttlebody contactless upgrade. they all said it was unrepairable. Bosch inthink can get you one about 900 BUT you would have to wait for a while. It happent twice to me and both times got one through eBay for about 400. what ever you do get the sensor sorted before the ECU otherwise it will blow it again if the sencor error comes on for long periods! I know.....

No issues since I replaced both phonic wheels

Hi Everyone

my first post just joined. Have had my 3200gt man gbox for 3 months and 2,500 lunatic grin inducing miles. Mrs ALiRi loves it too...aint I lucky! Just had full engine service, belts & all, and went for the obligatory spin to check out the improvements - much smoother now it breathes and sparks properly..BUT on a rough surface hill (just over the border into Devon i.e England) where the ASR allways kicks in irrespective of speed or acceleration, first the ASR light flicked on then the dreaded red NOASR and the ABS warning light too. These have stayed on. I have tried stopping and restarting to no avail. Mechanic says disconnect battery to try a re-boot that way and will do this when I get home. Any updates on the original query/suggestions. How do you find the error codes? I am a very long way from any garagista who might have the specialist test equipment - Bristol is the nearest I think. The younger garagista has a laptop with a big box of wires & plugs to fit most vehicles but they dont see many Maseratis. Of all things, electrics and especially computer controlled stuff are definitely not my strong point. Not much fun driving it without traction control and worse no ABS and will heed the warnings not to so as not to risk damage to ECU.
Sorry for asking quite probably stupid questions -we have to start somewhere.

any & all suggestions very gratefully received

andy

Hi Andy,
Is it a coincidence that it happened straight after the service? Maybe the tech dislodged a sensor plug near a wheel or in the engine bay.
Also try to disconnect the battery for at least 5 mins.

Hi Ken

Thanks for the swift response. I went back to the mechanic this am and reported the problem. if the reboot does not work I will take it back in and he will check loose connections etc It's much more likely to be engine bay as he was not working on the wheels/hubs - just checked over the disks etc + most of the engine work was at the front for the belts but he said he found one of the air cleaner assemblies difficult to dismantle due to non captured screw so could have dislodged something when sorting that out. I have used this mechanic/garage for 5 + years for my quattro so I have trust...never been let down before.

Forgot to say welcome to the forum, I'm sure the tech or the reset will sort the fault for you.
With any electrical, electronic or warning light issue, the first port of call is always a reset or two.
Btw have you got the radio code in case it is reset?

Hi Ken

Thanks for the welcome. If this forum didnt exist then my irrational purchase would probably have bankrupted me already. The sharing of the collecive knowledge makes my boyhood dream possible.
I have all the paperwork & history from new inc the radio code card, which I still havent bothered to enter ( battery had been flattened & replaced due to lack of use by previous owner)....enjoying the sound of the engine too much....much better growl than my MD's XKR. Here's hoping its a dodgy connection... will let you know.

Have to agree about the sound, I only use my radio when I need travel reports.
Quite like the XFR, if I wanted a large saloon it would be on my list but would always go for a QP GTS. May not have the all round ability of an XFR but has far more presence etc etc etc etc.

Hi ALiRi, Welcome to the forum, but sorry that you're having a problem with your car. From your description it does sound like something's been dislodged during the service. You may need to get it on an SD2 to clear the stored faults and to reset it. How does it feel under braking? If you have no ABS (rather than just the warning light), you'd feel it on the brake pedal.

HI Emtee

thanks for the welcome. Feels normal under baraking but not inclined to push it the point where the ABS would kick in to find out if its working or not.... in case it isn't. Any Ideas as to where my nearest SD2 may be - I'm near Launceston in Cornwall?
Time to try the re-boot and see if I can find anything obvious.
